<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to a braked castor, with a swivel castor housing which can be pivoted about an axis and on which a castor is mounted, and with a brake which can be applied to the circumference of the castor and is arranged on a circular, tiltably mounted actuating member.
Such a steering roller is known from CH-PS 642 306. A disadvantage of the known swivel castor is that the brake and thus also its actuating member are mounted in the area of the swivel castor bearing, so that the components mentioned interfere with one another and must have a special construction.
The invention has for its object to provide a swivel castor of the type mentioned, in which the brake can be operated and released regardless of the rotational position of the swivel castor and which has a simple construction.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the actuating member is ring-shaped and is tiltably mounted on the swivel castor housing below the bearing thereof and in that a fixedly mounted device for tilting the actuating ring is provided.
Preferred and advantageous embodiments of the swivel castor according to the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
Characterized in that the brake is attached to a circular actuating ring in the invention, the lever for locking the brake as well as the lever for releasing the brake can be stationary on the vehicle on which the castor wheel is mounted or on a non-rotating part of the Swivel castor, e.g. B. on the mounting flange, via which the pivot bearing for the castor is attached to the vehicle.
The actuating ring is the in every rotational position. Swivel castor assigned to the brake lock, so that the described advantageous effect of the swivel castor according to the invention occurs. As a result of the construction according to the invention, the bearing for the steering roller housing is not required for the construction of the brake and is not influenced by it, so that the brake on the one hand and the bearing on the other hand can each be optimally designed.
The ; The swivel castor according to the invention also allows several swivel castors to be operated simultaneously.
In addition, with the swivel castor according to the invention it is possible to use the brake lock, which acts on the actuating ring, to fix the swivel castor in a specific rotational position or in a plurality of rotational positions.

Further details, features and advantages of the invention emerge. itself from the following description of exemplary embodiments of the invention. 1 shows schematically and in a side view a castor, FIG. 2 shows a castor in a different view, FIG.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
4, the actuating disc in a top view, FIG. 5 the actuating disc with the wheel brake insert mounted on it, FIG. 6 the assignment of the actuating disc and spring clip for releasing the brake, FIG. 7 the arrangement of the spring clip on the swivel castor housing, 8 a swivel castor with another embodiment. of a brake for the brake, FIG. 9 shows an embodiment in which two steering castors can be braked together and FIG. 10 schematically shows the arrangement from FIG. 9 in a side view.
A swivel castor 1 shown in FIG. 1 has a swivel castor housing 2, on which a castor 3 is freely rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis 4. The swivel castor housing 2 can be rotated about a vertical axis 6 via a pivot bearing 5. The pivot bearing 6 can be mounted (screwed) on a vehicle 9 via a mounting flange 8.
A pot-shaped abutment 10 is fastened to the steering roller housing 2 and is open at the bottom. The swivel castor housing 2 is also assigned an actuating disk 11, on which a support ring 12 is mounted, which engages in the cup-shaped abutment 10 from below. The actuating disc 11 carries, via a brake insert carrier 13, a wheel brake insert 14 which, when the brake is actuated, rests against the circumference of the roller 3 and brakes it. To actuate the brake, a force is exerted on the actuating disc 11 in the direction of the arrow 15, so that the latter is located via its support ring 12 on the cup-shaped abutment 10 at a point opposite the area in which the force 15 acts on the actuating disc 11 , panned.
It can be seen that regardless of the rotational position of the steering roller 1 (rotation about its axis 6), the circular design of the actuating disc 11 can always act on the actuating disc 11 at the same position without impairing the function of the brake.
In order to keep the actuating disc 11 and thus the brake insert 14 at a distance from the circumference of the roller 3 when the brake is not actuated, the actuating disc 11 is associated with a spring to be explained, which actuating disc 11 is shown in FIGS Location presses.
In particular, if the pot-shaped abutment 10, as is indicated, for example, in FIG. 2, is formed by the upper end wall de: swivel castor housing 2 and its side walls, the actuating disc 11 can also be installed in existing swivel castors 1. the. It then becomes the actuator 30, 40 as an accessory.

supplied, in particular the actuating devices of FIGS. 8 and 9 are preferred. The retrofitting of already existing castors 1 with the braking device according to the invention is without major ones
EMI4.1
3 and 4, the actuating disc 11 is shown again in greater detail. From Fig. 3 it can be seen that the carrier 13 for the brake insert 14 has a bore 16 through which the brake insert 14 can be fastened, for example with the aid of a screw (see also Fig. 5), which can also serve as a brake pressure body.
FIG. 4 also shows that recesses 17 can be provided on the actuating disc 11, said recesses being used to fix the steering roller 1 in a certain rotational position about its axis 6. In Fig.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 4, two recesses 17 lying diametrically opposite one another are provided, but it is also possible for only one, or several, for example four (FIG. 4) recesses 17 which are offset by 900 to one another.
6 and 7 show a steel bow spring 20 which serves to press the actuating disc 11 into its standby position shown in FIG. 1, in which its support ring is received in the cup-shaped abutment 10 and over its entire circumference at the bottom of the cup-shaped abutment 10 is present. The spring clip 20 is inserted with its hook-shaped bent ends 22 into openings 21 in the swivel castor housing 2 and acts with its web 23 on the underside of the actuating disc 11, so that the latter is loaded upward on the abutment 10.
FIG. 8 shows that the device 30 for actuating the brake, which acts on the actuating disk 11, can be mounted on the vehicle 2 or on the flange 5, via which the steering roller 1 is attached to the vehicle 2. It can be seen that the position and the position of the attachment of the device 30 for actuating the brake can be selected such that it is easily accessible to an operator and that the device 30 can be actuated independently of the rotational position of the steering roller 1.
The device 30 for actuating the brake can have a construction known per se and, in the exemplary embodiment shown, has an actuating lever 31 for moving a pin 34 downwards, the device 30 being constructed in such a way that it works in a self-locking manner, that is to say only then in its own Starting position
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
(shown in Fig. 8) returns when the trigger lever 32 is pressed.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 8, the arrangement is such that first the pin 34, which is resiliently received in a sleeve 35, runs onto the actuating disk 1 when the actuating lever 31 for the device 30 is depressed. If the actuating disc 11 is oriented such that the recess 17 or one of its recesses 17 lies under the pin 34, then the steering roller 1 is first of all determined without braking, i. H. it can no longer twist about its axis 6. Only when the actuating lever 31 of the device 30 is pressed further does the sleeve-shaped body 35 run on the actuating disc 11 from above, which is pivoted and the brake applied.
By actuating the release lever 32, the sleeve 35 and the pin 34 move upward again under the action of a return spring, not shown, so that the steering roller 1 is no longer braked and can finally rotate freely about its axis 6 again.
The self-locking effect of the device 30 for actuating the brake is based on the fact that the sleeve-shaped body 35 is guided through a recess in the release lever 32, so that it jams in it when the release lever 32 is not depressed.
9 and 10 show an embodiment in which an actuating device is associated with brakes of two castors. For this purpose, an actuating device 40 is coupled via a lever 41 to the elements assigned to the actuating disks 11 of the brakes. In detail, the arrangement is made as shown in simplified form in FIG. 10. The actuating device 40 can be actuated by hand by pressing a handle 42 or by means of a bracket 43 with the foot. In the case of larger brakes in particular, a lever which is mounted on the vehicle 9 and which is pressed onto the handle 42 can be provided. With the automatic locking device 44, the lever 41 is coupled via a pivot point 45. The elements acting on the actuating disks 11 are similar to those in FIG.
8 a pin 34 and a sleeve-shaped body 35, so that the functions also described with reference to FIG. 8 (swivel castor locking / braking) can be carried out. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the automatic locking device 44 is designed such that it can be released again by lifting the release lever 46.
Normally, the trigger lever 46, through which the actuating rod 47 is guided, is pulled down by a tension spring 48, i. H. in the sense of dei
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Self-locking, loaded to achieve self-locking.
10 it should also be noted that the illustration is simplified for the sake of clarity and the lever 41 has not been shown. In principle, the embodiment shown in FIG. 10 can also be used for braking and / or locking an individual steering roller 1. become.
In summary, the invention can be represented as follows, for example:
In the case of a swivel castor 1, a circular actuating disk 11 is provided which carries a wheel brake insert which serves to brake the castor 3 of the swivel castor 1. The actuating disc 11 engages with a support ring 12 in an abutment 10 on the swivel castor housing 2 and is pivotally attached in any direction so that it can be actuated by an actuating device 30 mounted on the vehicle 2 independently of the swivel position of the swivel castor 1 about its axis 6. The actuating disc 11 has recesses on its circumference, so that a pin 34 assigned to the actuating device 30 can be used to fix the steering roller 1 in a specific rotational position by snapping the pin 34 into the or one of the recesses.
The fact that a circular actuating disc 11 is provided means that the actuating device 30 can be mounted in a stationary manner, specifically in such a way that it is readily accessible at all times and regardless of the rotational position of the steering roller 1 and can be actuated without problems.
