Process for the production of fine cast iron wire from metal alloys
The invention relates to a method for the production of fine cast iron wire from metal alloys, e.g. B. made of Manganin, with full glass insulation.
There are known processes for the production of fine cast iron wire, which are made with arbitrarily selected starting materials, d. H. Metal alloys and types of glass can be used for glass insulation.
In a known method for producing such a fine cast iron wire, a predetermined amount of metal in a glass tube is converted by levitation melting by means of high-frequency currents into a drop that forms at the lower end of the tube and is surrounded by a viscous gas envelope, which becomes a capillary tube with a fine wire existing metal filling is pulled out.
The known methods have various disadvantages; In particular, it has hitherto hardly been possible to reproducibly produce fine wire with predetermined properties. The gas inclusions present in the metals or metal alloys used often led to interruptions of the metal wire in the glass capillary, to a separation of the glass envelope from the metal wire and to various changes in the electrical properties of the fine wire. In addition, it was found that the continuous advance of the raw wire into the melting zone, as provided in the known method, for some alloys, e.g. B. resistance alloys of the manganin type, is inapplicable for various reasons.
The invention relates to an improved method of the type mentioned at the outset, by means of which the quality of the fine wire produced is increased and any rejects are reduced to a minimum.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the metal alloy is subjected to a heat treatment in a vacuum before it is introduced into the melting zone and the formation of a metal droplet of a certain shape and size in the initial stage of the casting process with the aid of a glass of certain toughness previously provided with a bottom by melting manufactured glass tube, to whose characteristic values the opening angle of the melt inductor is set, is made.
The method according to the invention is illustrated in more detail by the drawing, in which the reference numbers designate: -l-a melt inductor, -2- the glass tube, -3- the metal wire fed in, -4- the floating metal drop, -5-a solidifying liquid , -6-the finished fine wire with glass insulation and -7- a take-up reel.
Before the glass tube-2- is introduced into the melting zone, it is provided with a bottom at its lower end by melting in a separate operation and then treated with a degreasing solution.
The metal alloy, i.e. H. the raw wire --3--, is subjected to a heat treatment in a vacuum before melting, so that it degassed on its surface and thus that of the known

According to Table 2, the weight of each group of glass tubes corresponds to a given type of glass and a certain opening angle of the inductor cone, which determines the lifting force of the inductor.
Example: The weight corresponds to the tube group B-VIII-X for medium-resistance glass
EMI3.2
When casting very fine wire, glass tubes with a weight of 0.5 to 1.0 g / cm and an inductor with an opening angle of the cone of 60 to 100 are used. A change in weight of the tube by 50% corresponds to a change in the opening angle of the cone of 10.
Each tube is melted shut at the lower end in such a way that a bottom is created that takes the form of a drop of the specified amount of metal in the melting zone.
Furthermore, all glass tubes are treated with a degreasing solution. These two operations help to reduce the time required to regulate the casting process.
The balanced amount of metal filled into the glass tube consists of a raw wire that has been previously degreased and subjected to a heat treatment at a temperature of 5000 C in a vacuum of 10-4-5.10-5 Torr over the course of 2 hours. The heat treatment of the metal alloy in a vacuum ensures a stable casting process in the fine wire production and prevents the otherwise so frequent tearing of the thread of the fine wire forming in the capillary tube caused by gas inclusions.
To achieve a fine wire with a given temperature coefficient of resistance, the unit length resistance of the fine wire is continuously corrected during the casting process. This correction is made by automatically changing the operating parameters during casting, for example the speed of the fine wire holder and the glass tube feed, the position of the drop made of a balanced amount of metal in relation to the inductor, by generating an overpressure above the drop, the gap between the drop and the inductor, the temperature u. a.
Each type of glass has a certain toughness so that a fine wire with a given length unit resistance can be obtained, which makes it possible to produce fine wire with a length unit resistance within a certain range (see Table 3).

Example: according to Table 3, with low-resistance glass with a toughness of 1800200 poise at a temperature of 13000 C, ultra-fine wire with a unit length resistance of up to 10000 Olm is obtained.
In order to keep the temperature coefficient of resistance of the fine wire thread produced constant over its entire length, the predetermined consumption of metal removed from the balanced amount for periodic replenishment of the drop is monitored.
This check is carried out along the length of the fine wire pulled out of the metal drop with a given length unit resistance, which is automatically monitored and corrected (see Table 4).

According to Table 4, 700 m of high quality fine wire with a unit length resistance of 5000 Q / m are made from a drop of the balanced amount of metal, taking into account the
Metal consumption generated.
In order to reduce the time to adjust the process after every balanced amount of metal has been used up, the metal alloy is replenished in the manner described earlier, as long as the

Table 5 is worked out for manganin with a diameter of 1.2 mm which is introduced into the drop at a speed of 80 mm / min.
Example: according to Table 5, when producing fine wire with a unit length resistance of 5000 Q / m and a length of 400 m, a melting time of the drop dose of 41 seconds is required.
The extra-fine cast wire produced, whose characteristic values of the temperature coefficient of resistance do not correspond to the desired ones, does not need to be scrapped and discarded, as has been the case up to now; rather, it can be subjected to further processing until it reaches certain characteristic values. For this purpose, the discarded fine wire is subjected to a heat treatment at a temperature of 250 ° C. and a pressure of 10 Torr over the course of 4 hours. As a result of this heat treatment, instead of a fine wire with a temperature coefficient of resistance of 5.10-5 / 0 C, an ultra-fine wire with a resistance temperature coefficient of 3.10-5 / 0 C and a coefficient of 3.10-5 / 0 C is obtained from 1. 5. 10-5 / 0 C.
