<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Audio tape cassette and apparatus for using this cassette
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the winding mandrel, carriers which can be moved back and forth in the direction of the cassette are arranged.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawings, u. betw. show: Fig. 1 a tape cassette in plan view with the tape running schematically shown, Fig. la this cassette in section, Fig. 2 the tape cassette according to Fig.
EMI2.1
The cassette K according to FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a housing 3 consisting of two identical parts 1 and 2 and two winding cores 4 and 5 for a tape 6. The two parts 1 and 2 are connected to one another by means of screws 7. Both in the bottom surface 8 as in the
Cover surface 9 of the housing 3 are provided with two openings, of which those in the cover surface 9 can be seen in FIG. 1 and are denoted by 10 and 11. These openings each have a ring-shaped extension 12 or 13.
The approaches 12 and 13 engage with play in depressions of the winding cores 4 and 5 and thus hold these winding cores in place. The actual centering of the winding cores takes place when the cassette is inserted onto the mandrels of a tape recorder that fit into the slotted holes in the winding cores.
The cassette also has two deflection rollers 14 and 15 over which the tape 6 is guided so that it runs parallel to the side surface 16 of the housing 3. In this side surface 16, three openings 17, 18 and 19 are provided, behind which the band 6 extends, as can be seen in FIG. The opening 18 is arranged in the middle of the length of the side surface 16 and the openings 17 and 19 are equidistant from the opening 18.
Both in the bottom surface 8 and in the cover surface 9 there are also openings in the region of the openings 17 and 19, of which those arranged in the cover surface 9 are designated by 20 and 21.
The opening 18 serves to bring a combined recording / playback head 22 of a magnetic sound device 23 (FIG. 3) into the cassette and into contact with the tape 6. For this purpose, the magnetic head 22 is arranged on a carrier 27 which can be moved back and forth perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the winding mandrels 24 and 25 of the device, in the direction of the cassette by means of an operating button 26. An erase head 28 and a pressure roller 29 are also arranged on this carrier 27 in such a way that when the head 22 is inserted into the opening 18, the erase head 28 is simultaneously guided into the opening 17 and the pressure roller 29 into the opening 19 and in contact with the tape 6 to be brought. The carrier 27 is therefore common for the heads 22 and 28 and for the pressure roller 29.
The openings 20 and 21 in the top and bottom surfaces 8, 9 each serve to introduce a drive shaft into the cassette. In FIG. 4, which shows a section through FIG. 3 along the line IV-IV, the drive shaft is denoted by 30. This shaft protrudes through an opening 31 in the bottom surface 8 and through the opening 21 in the cover surface 9. The audio tape 6 is located between the shaft 30 and the pressure roller 29.
Fig. 4 shows the position of the cassette K and the pressure roller 29 after the cassette has been placed in the direction of arrow B on the tape recorder. The cassette is not yet locked in this position and can be removed from the device by moving in the opposite direction of arrow B.
However, by means of the operating button 26, the carrier 27 can be moved in the direction of the arrow C, whereby the pressure roller 29 and at the same time the recording / playback head 22 and the erasing head 28 are guided into the corresponding openings 19, 18 and 17 so that the erasing head the will assume the position shown in Fig. 6. In this position, which corresponds to the operating state of the device, the top surface 9 and the bottom surface 8 encompass the heads 28, 22 and the pressure roller 29 so that the cassette K can no longer be removed from the device. Only after the carrier 27 has been moved in the opposite direction to the arrow C and thus the device has been switched off, the cassette can be removed from the device again.
It can be seen from FIG. 6 that openings 20 and 32 for bringing in a drive shaft are also provided in the area of the opening 17 in the cover surface 9 and in the bottom surface 8. There are therefore a total of two pairs of openings for inserting a drive shaft in the cassette housing. Through these openings 21, 31 on the one hand and 20, 32 on the other hand, as well as through the symmetrical arrangement of the openings 17 and 19 with respect to the opening 18 in the side surface 16
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
it is achieved that the cassette can be placed on the tape recorder either with its bottom surface 8 or with its top surface 9. This makes it possible to record two parallel tracks one after the other on the tape 6 and thereby to double the playing time of the cassette.
With regard to FIG. 1, it should also be noted that behind the band 6 in the opening 18 there is a pressure plate 33 made of felt on a spring 34. When the head 22 assumes its operating position, this plate 33 presses the tape 6 against the head 22.
The locking of the cassette on the tape recorder by means of the heads 22 and 28 and by means of the pressure roller 29 can be further improved by the fact that the cassette is placed on the
Device is first pushed with its side surface 35 lying opposite side surface 16 under a shoulder 36 (FIG. 3) of the device and is then tilted down to put the mandrels 24, 25 in the winding cores 4, 5 and the drive shaft 30 in bring the openings 31, 21 into it. This development of the locking arrangement is very useful if the winding cores 4, 5 have a fairly large amount of play with respect to the cassette housing 3 and / or the winding mandrels 24, 25 have a fairly large amount of play in relation to the winding cores 4, 5.
