Diese Versteifungseinlage 11 reicht in der Stellung der Fig. 2 nahezu bis zum Schuhboden. Sie verhindert, dass die empfindlichen Fussteile, nämlich Ferse und Achillessehne, an dem Gelenk 8 anliegen.
Die strichpunktierten Linien in Fig. 2 deuten die geöffnete Stellung der Zunge 7 an. Der Fuss findet in dieser Stellung der Zunge eine weit geöffnete Einschlupföffnung vor. Es ist ausserdem ersichtlich, dass die Zunge in dieser Stellung (strichpunktierte Linie) dem einschlupfenden Fuss als Führung dient.
Die Zunge ist gemäss Fig. 1 von einer Verschnürung überspannt, die sich vom Absatzbereich 4 bis zum oberen Rand des Schaftes erstreckt. An Stelle der Schnürung können beliebige andere bekannte Verschlussmittel verwendet werden.
Durch Auflagen auf der Versteifungseinlage 11 oder durch verschiedene Dicke der Verstärkungseinlagen selbst kann der Schuh an die jeweilige Fussgrösse angepasst werden.
