Die Schaumreaktion beginnt dann sofort und verläuft mit ähnlicher Geschwindigkeit, wie sie bei Raumtemperatur verlaufen würde, wenn an Stelle von Borax eine äquivalente Menge nicht gebundenes Wasser verwendet würde. Durch mechanische Nachbearbeitung der Oberfläche erhält das imprägnierte Material ein lederähnliches Aussehen.
