<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for re-atomizing the fuel-air mixture prepared in the carburetor of an internal combustion engine with the supply of additional air
The invention relates to a device for re-atomizing the fuel-air mixture prepared in the carburetor of an internal combustion engine with the supply of additional air, which comes from a flange provided between the carburetor and the internal combustion engine with a radially extending, straight outer air arranged perpendicular to the flange bore ending approximately in the center of the flange bore feed nozzle, the sucked air flowing out essentially parallel to the fuel-air mixture coming from the carburetor in the downstream direction.
In a known embodiment, an air supply pipe looping around the exhaust pipe is provided, which is arranged with the other bent end in the center of the flange bore. Furthermore, in the
Flange a spiral fan is provided through which the fuel-air mixture is swirled. The aforementioned bent end and the spiral fan greatly reduce the air flow cross-section and, moreover, the mixing of the fresh air with the fuel-air mixture is minimal, at least in the area of the pipe wall.
As a result of the low negative pressure of the various bends in the air supply pipe and the resulting frictional losses as well as those caused by the heating of the fresh air
As the volume increases, the weight of secondary fresh air supplied to the internal combustion engine per unit of time is reduced.
Another known device is the air supply pipe. designed as a pipe elbow, seen in the direction of flow, whereby the fuel-air mixture impinging on the pipe elbow is transferred to the
Pipe wall is deflected so that condensation easily occurs as a result. It is also disadvantageous that there is a considerable reduction in cross section. Finally, the supply of the
Fresh air is controlled by a double spring-loaded valve, which works poorly, but at least not reliably.
In a known device, the air supply pipe is already designed as a straight nozzle and is arranged perpendicular to the flange bore axis. Here, too, the individual engine cylinders suck in the additional air via a spirally wound suction line that is surrounded by the exhaust gases and is thus heated.
Finally, it is also known that the condensation of the fuel on the walls of the intake pipe increases. prevent. For this purpose, a flange-shaped insert is switched on in the suction pipe, the bore of which corresponds to the inside diameter of the suction pipe. The flange has an annular channel into which the line for the fresh air supply opens and the inner wall of which is provided with distributor openings all around. The fresh air is supplied via a multi-way valve, while the air supply pipe in the
Engine radiator ends. With this device, too, only a very small amount of fresh air can be supplied and mixed with the fuel-air mixture.
To eliminate the disadvantages mentioned, it is proposed according to the invention that the feed end of the air feed nozzle lying outside the flange bore is constantly open from the flange into the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Free atmosphere protrudes and that an annular groove is provided in the flange, which is connected to the outside air through bores and to the inside of the flange via further essentially radial notches.
Practical testing has shown that this leads to significant fuel savings.
Furthermore, official exhaust gas analyzes have shown that the amount of unburned carbon in the exhaust gases is significantly reduced over a wide engine speed range.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the bore of the flange is also recessed spherically.
This creates an enlarged mixing chamber, which allows a particularly intensive mixing of the additional air with the air-gas mixture coming from the carburettor, so that this guarantees a further increase in engine performance on the one hand and lower fuel consumption on the other. The spherical recess also prevents dead spaces. Finally, it is proposed according to the invention that the outer end of the air supply pipe has an adjusting screw by which the amount of outside air supply can be adjusted.
In the drawings, the essence of the invention is exemplified and illustrated schematically, u. Between them: FIG. 1 shows a top view of the flange side facing the connecting piece of the motor, FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1.
According to FIGS. 1 and 2, a flange 1, which is inserted between the carburetor flange 13 and the motor flange 14, has a bore 12 which is larger than the inner diameter of the aforementioned flanges. The flange bore has a spherical recess and is provided on the side facing the carburetor with an annular groove 4 which is connected to the mixing chamber 12 through centrally arranged notches 15.
In an annular groove 6 of the cylindrical flange wall located in front of the notches 15, a spoke-like curved wire structure 7 is inserted through which the air gas mixture arriving from the carburetor is cut so that vacuum air spaces are created behind the wire, into which the outside air flows.
In the flange there is provided a radial bore 9 for a straight air supply pipe 8 which protrudes only briefly from the flange. The air supply pipe is drilled open in the vicinity of its inner end on the upstream side.
The outer end of the air supply pipe 8 carries an adjusting screw 11, by which the outside air supply is regulated.
The air supply pipe 8 mounted in the bore 9 of the flange 1 has, in addition to the centrally located air outlet 10 facing the engine, a connecting bore 17 which is coincident with a flange bore 16 which opens into the annular groove 4.
As a result of the design according to the application, the additional air penetrates via the outlet opening 10 into the center of the mixing chamber and radially via the bore 17 into the bore 16 and from there via the annular groove 4 and the notches 15 into the interior of the mixing chamber 12. The wire star 7 also cuts air, which promotes the mixing process.
