Lubricating oil filters, in particular for internal combustion engines
The invention relates to a lubricating oil filter with a two-part housing that accommodates a replaceable filter element and is screwed to the engine block of an internal combustion engine, which has a connection flange with flow bores for the lubricating oil, the latter being used to attach a fastening flange provided on the filter housing.
It is known to design the connection flange provided with a central internal thread as a cover of the filter housing and to connect this cover to the housing in a form-fitting manner, so that the filter insert, if it has become unusable, has to be replaced together with the housing.
In another known embodiment, the cover of the housing forms a flange which can be connected by means of a bayonet catch to a connection flange which is attached to the motor block and equipped with a valve.
A known filter has a flange part that is offset from the bottom of its housing for attachment to the engine block, an intermediate part being provided between the bottom of the filter housing and the flange part, the length of which corresponds to almost half the height of the filter and which has various channels running obliquely to one another.
Yet another known filter has a conical bottom which cannot merge directly into a flange part, but in which an intermediate part has to be provided between the bottom and the flange part. The axes of the flange part and the filter housing are perpendicular to one another in this filter, so that the intermediate part is approximately L-shaped when viewed in cross section.
The invention is based on the object of designing a lubricating oil filter that can be exchanged as a whole or only with regard to the filter insert in a space-saving manner and with simple connecting channels while saving on material and manufacturing costs. This object is achieved according to the invention in that the outside of the disc-shaped bottom of the housing is designed as a connection flange, the bottom and flange parts merging directly into one another avoiding an intermediate part, and that at the hub-like ring attachment of the bottom there is at least one through-hole for the outflowing filtrate having clamping tube is fastened with internal threads at the end, which receives at its free end a clamping screw for fastening a housing cover closing off the filter housing.
The parts that form the housing and hold it together can be manufactured economically as injection molded parts that make special mechanical processing unnecessary, with transparent material being able to be provided for the housing and / or cover. In repair shops, petrol stations or the like, this offers the possibility of replacing the lubricating oil filter as a structural unit or just the filter insert, depending on the workload, whereby the housing with the cover and the valves in the filter can advantageously be used again of the lubricating oil filter, only a screw socket needs to be provided on the engine block.

The invention provides that the clamping tube is firmly inserted into the hub-like ring extension of the bottom of the filter housing.
In an embodiment of the invention, the hub-like ring attachment carries a check valve and a pressure relief valve in such an arrangement that resilient tongues of the valve plate of the check valve are supported against the valve plate of the pressure relief valve, against which the upper cover disk of the filter insert rests from below.
According to the invention, an annular groove for receiving a conical helical spring acting on the valve disk of the pressure relief valve is provided on the clamping tube.
According to the invention, the housing cover has an annular collar for centering the filter insert supported against a sealing ring.
In the drawing, a main flow filter is shown as an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, half in longitudinal section and half in side view.
A housing 1 made of light metal or plastic in an injection molding process receives a sealing ring 4 in an annular groove 3 on the outside of its base 2. In the flange of the housing base 2, bores 5 arranged on a pitch circle are provided as inlet openings for the lubricating oil to be filtered.
In a hub-like ring shoulder 6 of the housing base 2, a clamping tube 7 is inserted, which has an internal thread 8 for screwing a hollow threaded connector (not shown) located on the engine block and, at its free end 9, which is offset in diameter, an internal thread 10 for receiving a housing cover 11 against the housing l bracing and a sealing ring 12 bearing Allen screw 13 has. At least one bore 14 in the clamping tube 7 enables the filtrate to flow out.
A non-return valve consisting of a flexible valve disk 15 and a valve plate 17 made resilient by spreading tongues 16 is assigned to the bores 5 provided in the housing base 2, and is centered on the hub-like annular shoulder 6. The tongues 16 of the valve plate 17 rest against a valve plate 19 provided with bores 18, which is centered in a recess 20 on the ring attachment 6, and whose valve disc 21 is under the action of a conical ring spring 22 which engages in a groove 23 of the clamping tube 7 and with the parts 19 and 21 form a pressure relief valve.
The upper cover disk 25 of the filter insert 26, guided on the ribs 24 of the housing 1, rests against the valve plate 19 of this pressure relief valve from below. The lower cover disk 27 of the filter insert 26 is centered on an annular shoulder 28 of the housing cover 11 and is supported against a sealing ring 29 which is received in a groove 30 in the housing cover 11.
The lubricating oil flowing through the inflow bores 5 opens the check valve 15, 16, 17 and flows through the filter insert 26, from where it flows off through the bores 14 in the clamping tube 7 as filtrate in the direction of the engine block. If, in the event of clogging of the filter insert 26, the pressure of the lubricating oil flowing into the housing 1 through the bores 5 rises considerably, the pressure relief valve 19, 21, 22 is opened and enables a sufficient amount of oil to flow through the bores 14 into the interior of the Clamping tube 7 and reaches the lubrication points.
To replace the lubricating oil filter as a whole, the housing 1 is unscrewed from the hollow threaded connector on the engine block of the internal combustion engine. The filter insert 26 in the housing 1 becomes accessible and can be exchanged when the Allen screw 13 has been loosened from the clamping tube 7 and the cover 11 has been removed.
