<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The invention relates to an electrical plug contact with connection means for connecting an electrical conductor and with at least three contact tongues separated by slots, between which a contact pin can be inserted to produce an electrical contact to the plug contact. Furthermore, the invention relates to an electrical contact device with plug contact and associated contact pin and a meter connector strip.
Plug contacts of the type mentioned are already known. In order to establish good electrical contact between the contact pin and the electrical plug contact in which the contact pin is inserted, the contact tongues of the plug contact have so far been surrounded by an annular spring which compress the contact tongues towards one another and thus the inner surfaces of the contact tongues when the contact pin is inserted against it to press. In addition, a securing sleeve surrounding the contact tongues was provided in order to limit the spreading apart of the same.
The object of the invention is to provide an electrical plug contact which is simplified in construction and which nevertheless permits reliable electrical contacting.
According to the invention, this is achieved in the case of a plug contact of the type mentioned at the outset in that the clear distance, measured transversely to the insertion direction of the contact pin, of the inner surfaces of the contact tongues in the region of the free end of the contact tongues is smaller than the clear distance in a central region of the contact tongues remote from the free end .
According to the invention, the contact tongues of the electrical plug-in contact are thus somewhat bent toward the free end. This allows a reliable electrical contact to be made with the contact pin, without using a separate ring spring or sleeve, as was previously provided in the prior art.
A particularly preferred embodiment consists in that the functional plug contact is made in one piece except for the connection means, which preferably comprise at least one clamping screw. This permits simple and inexpensive production, which is particularly important because such electrical plug contacts are mass-produced items.
In a preferred embodiment, the contact tongues - as known per se -
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
essentially have partially cylindrical inner surfaces. The outer surfaces can also be essentially partially cylindrical. This results in an essentially circular inner space between the contact tongues, which is suitable for inserting a cylindrical contact pin. With such a configuration of the contact tongues, the clear distance between the inner surfaces of the contact tongues simply corresponds to the respective diameter in the area between the contact tongues.
In a further preferred exemplary embodiment, it is provided that the clear distance between the contact tongues is greater in an end region facing away from the free end of the contact tongues than in the central region.
In the rear region of the receiving opening of the electrical plug contact, as seen in the insertion direction of the contact pin, there is thus an exemption in which the electrical contact pin is no longer in contact with the contact tongues. This allows the contact pin to be fully inserted without the risk of the pin becoming jammed or jammed.
Further advantages and details of the invention are explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment.
1 shows an embodiment of an electrical plug contact according to the invention, partly in a side view, partly in section, the associated contact pin also being partly shown.
FIG. 2 shows the front area of the electrical plug contact of FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale.
FIG. 3 shows a section along line A-A of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 shows a view according to arrow B in FIG. 1.
The electrical plug contact shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 is formed in one piece and consists of metal, preferably of brass, which is galvanically nickel-plated. As separate components for the electrical plug contact 1, only two clamping screws are required as connecting means, which are to be inserted into the threaded bores 2 and are not shown for the sake of clarity. These two clamping screws can be used to clamp a cable or wire inserted into the electrical plug contact from the rear.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
However, the connection means need not be implemented using clamping screws.
It is possible, for example, to also clamp the inserted conductor by compressing parts of the electrical plug contact, with which the latter can also be formed in one piece together with the connecting means. In the front area, the electrical plug contact in the present exemplary embodiment has four contact tongues 3, which have essentially partially cylindrical inner surfaces 3a and partially cylindrical outer surfaces 3b, the individual contact tongues being separated from one another by slots 4.
In the front area, the contact tongues 3 have a known bevel 5, which allows an easier insertion of the contact pin 6, which has a hemispherical tip 7 and an essentially cylindrical jacket 8.
According to the invention, the clear distance, measured transversely to the insertion direction B of the contact pin, of the inner surfaces 3a of the contact tongues 3 (diameter d1) in the area C of the free end of the contact tongues is smaller than the clear distance (diameter d2) in a central area distant from the free end of the contact tongues D of the reeds. In other words, the contact tongues in the region of the free end (on the right in FIGS. 1 and 2) are somewhat "bent together" or biased against one another. The angle or bend which is produced is typically very small, so that it is not shown in the drawings but it is essential that d1 is smaller d2.
The difference between d and d2 is in the usual sizes of such electrical plug contacts in the range of 1/10 mm bits 3/10 mm.
As shown in FIG. 2, the end area C lies directly after the bevel 5 in the foremost section of the entire insertion depth L. The central area D is essentially half the insertion depth and extends, for example, over a length of 10 to 20% of the insertion depth L.
At the end region E of the contact tongues 3 facing away from the free end, the clear distance d3 of the contact tongues is greater, so that there is an exemption. The difference between d3 and d2 is typically between o mm and o mm. This release in the rear end region E of the insertion depth L prevents the inserted contact pin 6 from jamming or wedging and allows reliable contact with the other inner surfaces 3a of the spring tongues 3.
Starting from the free end of the contact tongues 3, the inside diameter increases continuously from the value d to the value d2. With the typically small quantitative increase, it is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
it is not so relevant whether the inner surfaces 3a of the electrical contact tongues 3 have a straight line, that is to say are really partially cylindrical, or whether the contact tongues 3 are slightly curved. What is essential is the fact that d is smaller than d2. This allows a secure electrical contact to be made between the plug contact 1 and the contact pin 6 even without the use of additional ring springs and sleeves.
The plug contact according to the invention can be used in particular on meter plug strips where a plurality of such plug contacts are arranged next to one another, for example in a meter box. The meter itself then has contact pins that fit into the meter header. The plug contact is typically designed for a voltage range between 200 volts and 400 volts.
Of course, other possible uses are also conceivable. The number of contact tongues is also not limited to four. It can also be three or more contact blades. The cross section of the space between the contact tongues need not be circular, although this configuration appears to be the most advantageous. Other cross sections, for example rectangular or polygonal cross sections, are also conceivable and possible.
The dimensioning between the contact pin and plug contact will be such that the diameter or the cross-sectional dimension of the contact pin is in any case larger than the diameter or the clear distance of the contact tongues in the area C of the free end of the contact tongues. The diameter of the contact pin is advantageously also larger than the clear distance between the contact tongues in the central region D, so that the diameter of the contact pin 6 is preferably larger than d1 and larger than d2 in FIG. 2. This diameter of the contact pin 6 is advantageously smaller than d3 in the end region E in order to achieve the necessary clearance in this rear region.
This results overall in good electrical contact between the contact tongues 3 and the inserted contact pin 6, but without the risk of wedging or jamming of the contact pin in the rear region of the electrical plug contact.
