Means for combating insects
The invention relates to an agent for controlling insects, in particular flies. The agent is characterized in that it consists of a pressed mass which contains the following substances dispersed in a base mass of sugar or another fermentatively degradable carbohydrate: an insect-effective feed poison, binding agent, humectant, a fermentation-active material, in particular partially hydrolyzed Yeast, and possibly diastase. Advantageously, the pressed mass also contains a dye which is able to attract the insects, preferably a red dye, such as. B. erio rubra.
The addition of a binder, such as. B. methyl cellulose, ensures that the pressed mass is extremely dense and firm and that it does not lose these properties even under the influence of rain and moisture.
The addition of a humectant, such as. B. calcium stearate, causes a certain increase in moisture on the surface of the pressed mass, which improves the attraction and effect on the insects.
The agent according to the invention thus represents an easy-to-use so-called "fly stone" which has the particular advantage that it is also very attractive to the flies, is resistant to the effects of the weather and has a very long useful life.
In summary, the essential features of the agent according to the invention should be pointed out again:
1. The content of sugar as the main component, which on the one hand serves as a carrier for the active ingredient, on the other hand causes the flies to ingest the active ingredient together with the sugar through eating.
2. The dense and firmly coherent state of the pressed mass, which itself withstands the influence of rain.
3. The moist nature of the surface of the pressed mass, which enables and promotes the absorption of the active ingredient by the flies.
4. The presence of a small amount of partially hydrolyzed yeast which, together with the sugar, causes a fermentation process which promotes the attraction of the flies.
5. The dye that may be present, especially the red dye, which also promotes the attraction of the flies.
It is already known the measure of dyeing fly papers containing active ingredients on the basis of blotting paper or unsized paper, or fly plates on the basis of cardboard felts red and optionally with attractants, such as. B. honey. However, these known agents have the disadvantage that they are not stable enough in practical use and z. B. swell strongly due to the action of moisture. The resulting extensive structural dissolution, especially in the surface of the agent, causes an uneven and sometimes excessive release of the active ingredients, combined with a shortening of the duration of action of the fly paper or fly plate concerned.
It is also known to produce so-called feeding varnishes on the basis of sugar syrup or synthetic honey, which also contain glycerine, gelatin solutions, plant mucilage and cellulose derivatives. These known agents also have the disadvantages mentioned above in the case of fly papers or fly plates with regard to low moisture stability and are also not resistant to the action of heat, e.g.
B. from strong sunlight, which leads to a complete

In place of the active ingredients listed above, practically any food poison for insects can be used successfully, even if it is not included in this list.
