Method of treating steel during casting.

The present invention aims to improve the casting properties of mild steel by removing all bubbles and porous areas therefrom without reducing the ductility of the metal.

Hei execution of the present method an intimate mixture of finely powdered kelp (ashes of seaweed), broken glass and alumina or clay is brought into the casting spoon before pouring the molten steel; In addition, however, other known additives to mild steel, such as ferromanganese, pure aluminum, etc., can of course also be introduced into the ladle.
 EMI1.1
Steel is thoroughly stirred and is then particularly suitable for casting small objects in curdles. With the help of this process, horseshoes made of soft mild steel can be cast in coquines that do not require subsequent tempering.
