Fig. 3 zeigt in schematischer Darstellung den beim Zerschneiden eines Metallstückes 12 in Arbeitstellung befindlichen Schneidbrenner 1.

Method and device for welding or
Flame cutting of metals
The invention relates to a method and a device for welding or flame cutting of metals, in which the burner is supplied with a gaseous fuel and oxygen.
While in the processes known as gas welding, the metals are united under the action of the heat developed during the combustion of the hot gas-oxygen mixture by a locally limited melt flow, whereby an additional material is usually included, the flame cutting of metals, also called oxy-fuel cutting, is based on on the oxidation of the workpiece. The same is heated to the ignition temperature at the cutting joint by a preheating flame and burned in a sharp oxygen jet, whereby the kinetic energy of the oxygen jet must be so great that the formed and liquefied oxide is thrown out of the cutting joint.
In order to avoid a structural change in the metal during the work process and to obtain a regular, clean cut during flame cutting, the purity of the heating gas, preferably acetylene, and oxygen must be taken into account in a known manner. The mixing ratio between the two gases, the pressure applied and the size of the flame are also important.
From an economic point of view it is of course desirable to reduce the operating costs as much as possible, which can be achieved in particular by reducing the consumption of heating gas and oxygen and by increasing the operating speed.
A method has therefore also been proposed in which two separate oxygen jets are used, u. between a jet with gaseous oxygen, which is mixed with a fuel gas, is used to preheat the workpiece, and a second jet with liquid oxygen, which only hits the preheating gas mixture in the lower area of the cutting surface. But even this method could not be completely satisfactory, mainly because the devices required for its application were too complicated and relatively expensive and only really experienced specialists can be used for their careful operation.
The aim of the invention is a method which avoids the deficiencies mentioned and ensures a considerable increase in the working speed, economical consumption of heating gas and oxygen, the retention of the properties of the metal being processed, the complete removal of the slag and the avoidance of additional operations.
This is achieved according to the invention in that the gaseous fuel is mixed with liquid fuel in an extremely finely divided form before it is fed to the burner.
According to a feature of the inventive method, in addition to the first burning zone at the burner outlet, a second burning zone is formed inside the metal to be cut with the aid of an oxygen jet additionally fed to the fuel mixture, which maintains a sufficiently high temperature over the entire thickness of the metal to be cut.
The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method. with a burner to which gaseous fuel is supplied from a pressure vessel and oxygen is supplied via another line. This device is characterized in that the pressure vessel contains liquid fuel in its lower part and gaseous fuel above it in its upper part and can be closed by a distributor valve to which an inside of the container extends to just before its bottom.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the immersion tube is connected, the wall of which has openings below the distributor in the area of the gaseous fuel,
so that the liquid heating material brought up in the dip tube by the pressure prevailing in the upper part of the container mixes with the gaseous heating material pushed through the openings and is carried along in finely divided form against the valve outlet and in the
Burner mixed with the supplied oxygen.
According to further features of the invention, it is recommended that the inner diameter in the upper region of the immersion tube in the vicinity of the diametrically opposite openings is greater than the inner diameter in the lower part of the immersion tube and the cross section of each of the in the walls of the
Immersion tube diametrically opposite openings, which are used to atomize the liquid pushed up in the immersion tube, larger than the cross section of the. to choose the lower opening of the immersion tube.
The invention is based on one. Embodiment, which is shown in the drawing, explained in more detail. In this Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of the pressure vessel for the heating material connected to a cutting torch and closable by a distributor valve, FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section through the immersion tube on an enlarged scale and FIG. 3 is a schematic representation of the nozzles of the cutting torch directed towards the workpiece in the working position.
Fig. 1 shows a conventional cutting torch l. connected pressure vessel 2 for the heating fuel. For a better overview, the oxygen supply lines leading to the burner have been omitted. The pressure vessel 2 contains. in its lower area 3, the fuel in liquid form, which can also contain various additives to achieve certain properties. The gaseous fuel is located above the liquid fuel in the upper region 4 of the container 2. The pressure vessel 2 can be shut off by a distributor valve 5. In the interior of the pressure vessel 2, an immersion tube 7 extends from the valve 5 to near the bottom 6 and is preferably provided with a filter at the lower end.
Below the valve 5, in the area 4 for the gaseous heating material, the wall of the immersion tube 7 is provided with openings 8 lying diametrically opposite one another. Due to the overpressure prevailing in area 4, the liquid heating material is pushed up when the valve 5 is opened in the immersion tube 7, mixes with the gaseous heating material pushed through the openings 8 and is finely distributed by this against the distributor valve 5 and through it into the mixing chamber of the cutting torch 1, where the fuel mixture mixes with the oxygen fed into it and is directed through a nozzle 9 under an adjustable pressure to the point of consumption.
The immersion tube 7 shown on an enlarged scale in FIG. 2 is a particularly advantageous embodiment of the same. The upper region of the immersion tube 7, in the vicinity of the diametrically opposite openings 8, has a bore 10, the diameter of which is greater than that of the bore 11 at its lower end. Likewise, the cross section of each of the openings 8 diametrically opposite in the wall of the dip tube 7 is greater than the cross section of the lower bore 11.
Fig. 2 also shows schematically that when the valve 5 opens, the liquid fuel rises under the pressure of the gaseous fuel up to the enlarged area of the bore 10, where it is finely distributed with the gaseous fuel pressed through the openings 8 mixes according to a predetermined ratio. The mixing ratio is determined by the cross sections of the dip tube bore 11 and the openings 8. In a preferred embodiment with a pressure vessel for 30 kg of fuel, z.
B. the cross section of the openings 13, 2 mm2 and the cross section of the lower opening of the dip tube 11, 3 mm
3 shows a schematic representation of the cutting torch 1 in the working position when cutting a piece of metal 12. The finely divided mixture of gaseous and liquid heating fuel that has passed from the pressure vessel 2 into the cutting torch 1 is mixed with the supplied oxygen and forms during the process A primary burning zone 13 emerges from the burner 1, the flame 14 of which heats the metal piece 12 to a sufficiently high initial temperature.
Then a second oxygen jet 15 is brought under an increased, adjustable pressure from the cutting torch 1 against the metal piece 12 to be cut to act, which causes an oxidation of the same and yvegblasts the melting under the heat as slag, whereby a Forms a continuous burning zone 16 extending practically over its entire thickness.
The method according to the invention enables not only a considerable saving of fuel, but also a significant reduction in working time, as the practical tests have shown, of which two examples are given below in comparison.
