Verfahren zur Herstellung des neuen
EMI1.1

Method of making the new
EMI1.1
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of the new 3- [4- (5-nitro-2-furyl) - - thiazolyl- (2) -amino] -oxazolidons- (2) of the formula I:
EMI1.2
This new nitrofuran derivative has excellent chemotherapeutic properties with a broad spectrum of activity and can be used to prevent or control a large number of parasitic infections in animals and poultry. Thus, the poultry diseases caused by protozoa (e.g. Histomonas meleagridis or Eimeria tenella) can be effectively combated by adding 0.011-0.022% by weight of the new compound to the feed.
Bacterial infections can also be cured with this substance: With oral administration of only 105 mg / kg to mice, which z. B. were infected with deadly amounts of Staphylococcus aureus or Salmonella typhosa, a survival rate of 100% is achieved. Trypanosome infections also respond to the new compound: For example, mice that e.g. B. were infected with Trypanosoma fetus, can be completely freed from this microorganism if they are administered orally for 4 days each about 30 mg / kg of the substance. In a similar way, helminthic infections can be treated with the new compound: Mice afflicted with Syphacia obvelata are cured by administration of 50 mg / kg of the substance twice for 4 days.
The new compound of formula I is relatively non-toxic. The tolerated dose is more than 1000 mg / kg mouse. In turkeys and chicks, too, no toxic side effects can be observed if the substance is administered to them with the feed for a longer period of time. This good tolerance in combination with the broad chemotherapeutic effectiveness make the new compound a particularly valuable remedy.
The inventive method for the preparation of 3- [4- (5-nitro-2-furyl) -thiazolyl- (2) -amino] oxazolidone- (2) of the formula I is characterized in that a halomethyl- (5-nitro -2-furyl) - - ketone of the formula II:

with 1- [oxazolidon- (2) -yl- (3)] thiourea of the formula III:

condensed. It is preferable to start from the bromomethyl ketone and heat it with vigorous stirring
EMI2.2
is preferably based on potassium thiocyanate and works with heating in an aqueous medium in the presence of a mineral acid, e.g. B. hydrochloric acid.
The new compound of the formula I can be processed into tablets, capsules, suspensions, lozenges, etc. with the usual pharmaceutical carrier substances and adjuvants. When used in veterinary medicine, it is best to add it to the feed.
The method according to the invention is described in more detail in the following example.
