EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process for the production of composite bodies from foams
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Shaping creates a composite body with a largely homogeneous structure with uniform elasticity and strength properties, without different zones being present and without having to use an excess of binding agent. It is understandable that the internal pressure prevailing during molding can be regulated by choosing the type and amount of binder, so that any desired degree of compaction of the composite material can be obtained in a simple manner. No external pressure is to be used, so that the outlay on equipment is extremely low compared with the known method.
As a result of the easy adjustability of the structure or consistency of the composite body can according to the invention moldings for a wide variety of uses, such as. B. full mattresses, head parts for mattresses, upholstery, seating, armrests, bath mats, upholstery for motor vehicles, dashboard upholstery, floor mats, shoe beds, gymnastic mats and. Like. Be made. The molded bodies produced can be laminated on one or both sides.
A preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention consists in that a mixture of the small foam parts and the foamable binder is atomized together and injected into molds. The foaming of the binder begins during the atomization and continues in the molds.
This embodiment is particularly recommended for small-format composite bodies.
The invention is explained in more detail by the following exemplary embodiments:
EMI2.1
7 parts by weight of glycol adipate, 7 parts by weight of methylene chloride and 4 parts by weight of toluene diisocyanate. The adhesive is mechanically mixed with the foam flakes on a mixer and immediately poured into molds. After 3-5 minutes, the binder starts to foam with a slight increase in temperature. After the reaction has subsided, the mixture is left to cool and the plate-shaped composite plug is removed from the mold.
Example 2: To produce exercise mats or mattresses, 51 parts by weight of polyurethane foam and 31 parts by weight of foam rubber are comminuted in a knife mill to a flake size of about 10 mm. The foam rubber component can be completely or partially replaced by polyvinyl chloride foam. The foam flakes are mixed with 18 parts by weight of adhesive which has been freshly prepared in the same way as in Example 1 from polyester containing hydroxyl groups based on adipic acid and diols, methylene chloride and toluene diisocyanate, filled into closable molds and left to shape.
The plate-shaped products, if they are intended for gymnastic mats, are laminated on both sides with lute, for which a cold glue can be used. If mattresses are to be manufactured, such a lamination is done with Molino.
EMI2.2
of the polyester can be replaced with an aqueous methyl cellulose solution. A favorable ratio is 40 parts polyester to 2 parts methyl cellulose solution (41zig). The methyl cellulose improves the distribution of the adhesive and also affects the mechanical properties of the molded body produced, e.g. B. in terms of increased suppleness, favorable. However, it reduces the wet tensile strength to a certain extent, for which reason it should be omitted from the manufacture of bath mats or the like.
Example 3: For the production of smaller molded parts such as shoe beds, small upholstery parts for
EMI2.3
Railway wagons, armrests, based on polyvinyl chloride, crushed to a flake size of about 3 mm.
The foam flakes are treated with 20 parts by weight of adhesive, which is made up of 8.5 parts by weight of adipic acid diol polyester, 8.0 parts by weight of methylene chloride 98/1000/0, 2.3 parts by weight of tolylene diisocyanate and 0 parts by weight , 2 parts of tertiary amine was prepared as an accelerator, intimately mixed.
The mixture is molded into molds; the reaction and solidification are complete after about 35 minutes.
The molded parts can by inserted reinforcements, such as metal rails, wires and. Like., Be reinforced. In such a case it is advisable to coat the reinforcement inserts with an adhesive on the same basis, but which can contain a higher proportion of polyester.
Reinforcement inserts can also be used in the described second embodiment of the common atomization; In this case, the mixture of foam flakes and adhesive is overmolded in an injection mold.
