<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Device for the integrated determination of the product of two physical quantities, especially the electrical one
Energy consumption The invention relates to devices for the integrated determination of the product of two physical quantities, in particular for determining the electrical energy consumption, which do not contain any moving parts.
In previously known devices for determining the product of two physical quantities, the same, if they are not already electrical quantities, are proportional, identical or different electrical unit currents or units corresponding in their values.
Voltage - converted and fed to a multiplication stage in which the product is formed from these two electrical quantities and z. B. can be displayed as this proportional voltage. This method is used in particular for electronic wattmeters, u. between predominantly using the Gaussian effect, the thermoelectric or the Hall effect. This last method has proven to be the best because the switching elements required for it are cheap and the structure and circuitry are simple. In addition, a voltage proportional to the current-voltage product is generated directly, which is either measured directly with a voltmeter or used to operate a mechanical drive-z. B. a counter - can be used.
Compared to the conventionally constructed induction meters, which consist of a counter disc that rotates when electricity is drawn from the supply network and a counter coupled to it, the electronic wattmeter is entirely capable of moving components, with all of their disadvantages, which are well known, especially for long periods of operation to replace a moving component, namely the induction disc.
However, its use as an electronic wattmeter is only one of the numerous possible uses of the multiplication device mentioned at the beginning. However, the disadvantage always remains that, following the electronic multiplication stage, an analog, electronically integrating part is missing and therefore registration or summation of the respective measured values is either dispensed with or a mechanically constructed counting device - for example a counter - has to be used. which is operated in a suitable manner by the voltage generated in the multiplication stage.
Applied to the above example, this means that the induction counter with the electronic wattmeter consists only half of an electronic unit that forms a product, and the other half of a mechanism that counts or adds the result of this product. In order to achieve that this second summing part also works electronically, its mechanical movements must be controlled accordingly, i. H. can be converted into electronic storage.
According to the invention, this is achieved in devices for the integrated determination of the product of two physical quantities, in particular for the determination of the electrical energy consumption, in that they consist of a multiplication stage. two multivibrators, a subtraction stage and finally a pulse counter, the multiplication stage containing a DC-fed measuring bridge consisting of two identical magnetic field-dependent resistors and two opposite the same higher resistances, and this is assigned an excitation circuit, which consists of two exciter windings connected in series and each magnetically influencing one of the resistors as well as one

the same circuit connected in parallel and containing an impedance having a tap,
and that the voltages corresponding to the mains voltage and the mains current are connected to the series connection of the excitation windings or between the same and the tap of the impedance.
Further features and the structure of the multiplication device according to the invention are presented

In Fig. 1 I is a push-pull circuit of two identical, symmetrical multivibrators n and III, each of a control voltage forming the sum or the difference of the output voltage Es and a constant bias voltage Ev superimposed thereon, a multiplication stage generating the product of two physical quantities M, which according to the present circuit with an input terminal
EMI2.2
Ev-Es is fed to a subtraction stage IV in which the difference between the pulses of the two pulse series 1 and 2 is formed, so that only a single pulse series 3 appears at its output 6.
The polarity of the individual pulse series 1 or 2 to one another is irrelevant, so that either those with the same or different polarity can be subtracted from one another.
EMI2.3
Es = 0 subtraction level IV, the pulse sequence of which, as mentioned, corresponds to the respective product of two physical quantities, e.g. B. the amount of electricity drawn is proportional, are continuously counted in a pulse counter V, the integrating value of the size of the product is indicated by the number of pulses. If the integrating determination is based on the values of several products of two physical quantities, e.g.
B. when measuring the amount of electricity withdrawn for multi-line networks, several multiplication stages must accordingly be provided and the sum of the DC voltages or DC voltage components occurring at their outputs is to be used as the control voltage for the multivibrator circuit I.
To generate a voltage that is proportional to the product of two physical quantities, the multiplication stage M can work, for example, with the computing thermistors known from analogue computing, or, as already mentioned, the thermoelectric effect and certain semiconductors can be used for this purpose , the Hall effect or the magnetic field dependency of their ohm values can be exploited.
For example, the latter method is used to determine the effective power and, for two-wire networks, a multiplication stage M consisting of a DC-fed measuring bridge with two identical, magnetic-field-dependent resistors and two resistors with a large resistance value compared to these, as well as an excitation circuit with two series-connected resistors magnetically influencing excitation windings are used. In the excitation circuit, in parallel to the excitation windings, an impedance having a tap can be provided, or each resistance body is additionally exposed to a constant magnetic field.
In the former version, the voltages corresponding to the mains voltage and the mains current are connected to the excitation windings connected in series or between the excitation windings and the impedance tap. In the second version, the voltages corresponding to the line voltage and the line current are connected to the measuring bridge or to the excitation windings connected in series. The DC output voltage or the DC voltage component of the output voltage of the measuring bridge is a measure of the active power in both cases and is used to control the multivibrator circuit 1.
In general, it is necessary to amplify the output signals of the multiplication stage M in order to be able to control the multivibrators sufficiently. A push-pull circuit of two magnetic amplifiers, not shown further in the drawing, whose working windings are fed by a transformer with a secondary winding tapped in the center, is particularly suitable for this purpose. With a suitable pre-excitation, for example by arranging the magnetic amplifiers in a self-saturation circuit, their control characteristics can be shifted in such a way that they are at zero control current
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cut at a point for which their output voltage is equal to the desired bias voltage Ev. A separate voltage source does not need to be provided for this bias.
The working windings of the magnetic amplifiers are connected to a circuit with a center tap fed by the supply network. The multivibrators are to be connected with their common connection point to the center tap that forms a first output terminal of the push-pull circuit and, on the other hand, to one of the two other output terminals. If the control windings of the magnetic amplifier are connected to the output of the device, for example to determine the active power, the
EMI3.1
The DC component in the working windings is accomplished. The two working windings of each magnetic amplifier are connected to one another on the one hand and connected to a secondary winding with a center tap of a mains transformer on the other.
The multivibrators are each connected between the center tap and a connection point of two working windings. In the push-pull circuit, changes in mains voltage only affect the size of the voltage Ev and not that of the voltage Es, since the control characteristics of the magnetic amplifiers shift parallel to themselves in the event of mains voltage fluctuations and their intersection point remains on the ordinate assigned to the control current zero. The change in E has no influence on the course of the resulting frequency control voltage characteristic curve (f-f).
Another advantage of this circuit results from the fact that the multivibrators do not need to be fed by a stabilized mains connection device, since mains voltage fluctuations can be compensated for by a simple measure on the magnetic amplifier. The change in the multivibrator frequency caused by mains voltage fluctuations can namely be compensated for by an equal percentage change in voltage Es. Such a change in Es can be brought about on the magnetic amplifier with an additional control winding that is fed by a current that is dependent on the mains voltage. However, the condition for this compensation is that the multivibrators are fed from the same supply network as the magnetic amplifiers, so that they are the same
Voltage fluctuations are subject to.

The multivibrator II contains two transistors 7 and 8, of which the collector of the

The subtraction stage IV consists of four ferromagetic cores 27-30, of which the cores 27 and 28 each have two input windings 31, 32 and 33, 34 and the cores 29 and 30 each have an input winding 35 and 36 and a bias winding 37 or 38 wear. Also is on everyone
Each core is provided with an output winding 39, 40, 41 and 42, respectively. The direction of winding of the two input windings 31, 32 and 33, 34, respectively, arranged on a core 27 and 28, and of the input and bias windings 35, 37 and, respectively, arranged on the core 29 and 30, respectively.
36,38 is such that the magnetic fields generated by them are opposite to one another in their direction.
The input windings 31 and 36 are connected in series and on the one hand connected to the input terminal 25 of the device and on the other hand to the negative pole of the battery B via an RC element 43, 44, a transistor 45 and a resistor 46. Likewise, input windings 32, 34 and 35 are in

stor 49 and a resistor 50 with the input terminal 26 and the free end of the input winding 35 with the negative pole of the battery B is connected. The input winding 33 of the core 28 is connected on the one hand to the output winding 39 of the core 27 via an RC element 51, 52 and a transistor 53 and on the other hand to the negative terminal of the battery B via a resistor 54.
The bias windings 37 and 38 are fed with a constant current from the battery B via resistors 55 and 56, respectively. Diodes 57 and 58 and regulating resistors 59 and 60 are provided in the output circuits of cores 28 and 29, respectively. According to the circuit, the voltages occurring at the regulating resistors counteract one another and the resulting voltage appears at terminals 61, 62, which are connected to one another via a diode 63 and a regulating resistor 64. There is also a diode 65 and a regulating resistor 66 in the output circuit of the core 30. The regulating resistors 64, 66 are connected like the regulating resistors 59, 60, so that the voltages occurring across them also counteract one another.
The resulting voltage is fed via a resistor 67 to a switching element, for example a transistor 68, which is fed by the battery B via a resistor 69. The transistor 68 only allows pulses with negative polarity to earth through and outputs rectified, amplified voltage pulses of the newly formed pulse series between the output terminal 6 and earth.
The mode of operation of the device described is explained in more detail with the aid of the diagrams a - k shown in FIG. The two pulse series 1 and 2, the differential frequency of which is to be determined, are fed to input terminals 25 and 26, respectively. The polarity of the two pulse series 1 and 2 to be compared is irrelevant here. In our exemplary embodiment, it is assumed that both pulse trains are composed of pulses of negative polarity. After being amplified by the transistors 45 and 49, they reach the input windings 31 and 36 or 32, 34 and 35. Since the input windings 31 and 32 of the core 27 have opposite winding directions, im
Diagram a of FIG. 4 shows the pulse series of the frequency f2 positive and that of the frequency fi negative in diagram b.
The overall influence of the two pulse series on the magnetization of the core 27 can be seen both from diagram c, which is made up of diagrams a and b, and from the course of the hysteresis loop of the cores in FIG. The field strength generated by the pulses is namely greater than would be required for the actual saturation of the nucleus.
According to FIG. 5, this is illustrated by the fact that the pulse amplitude of the pulses 70 and 71 exceeds the saturation field strength Hs. When the first pulse 72 of the pulse series c occurs, the magnetization of the core suddenly rises to its magnetic saturation. A differentiated, positive voltage pulse is therefore induced in the output winding 39 instead of the leading edge of the pulse 72, as shown in diagram d. The trailing edge of the pulse 72 no longer causes such a large pulse in the output winding 39, since the magnetization of the core now runs according to the almost horizontal upper branch of the hysteresis loop. Only when the core is remagnetized by the first following negative pulse 73 does a differentiated, this time negative voltage pulse occur again in the output winding 39.
In the latter, a voltage is induced in this way, the course of which can be seen from diagram d. The transistor 53, however, only amplifies the negative pulses and widens them, so that pulses as shown in diagram e arise which are then fed to the input winding 33 of the next core 28. The influence of the pulses e together with the pulse a supplied to the input winding 34 results from diagram f, in which the two pulse series are now shown summed. The voltage pulses shown in diagram g then occur at the output winding 40 of the core 28. The negative ones are blocked by the diode 57 so that only positive pulses appear at the regulating resistor 59.
The premagnetization winding 37, which is at a constant voltage, causes a premagnetization of the core 29, illustrated by 74 in FIG. 6, which is greater than the saturation field strength EIS of this core. The amplitude of the pulses a fed to the second input winding 35 is so great that the core 29 is completely magnetized by each pulse a from negative induction-B to positive + B and back again to negative-B. A pulse sequence as shown in diagram h therefore appears on the output winding 41. The voltage peaks arising on the leading and trailing edges of the pulses a are now the same size. The diode 58 blocks the negative output pulses from the core 29 and only allows the positive ones to flow through the regulating resistor 60.
Since the voltages on the regulating resistors 59 and 60 act in opposite directions, the pulse series occurring on them are subtractively superimposed on one another. Their amplitude can be brought to the same size by setting the regulating resistors 59, 60 accordingly. Since for each pulse of the pulse series a and b at the regulating resistor 59 and 60, a positive pulse g or h occurs, and the pulses b representing positive pulses of the pulse train g always with positive pulses of the

When pulse train h coincide, a pulse train appears at terminals 61, 62, the pulse train frequency of which is equal to the difference between the frequencies f and f of the pulse series a and b, as shown in diagram i.
If the pulses of the two pulse series 1, 2 had the same frequency and the same shape and if they were in phase with each other in opposite directions, positive pulses with the same frequency as those of the pulses a, b would occur at terminals 61, 62. In order to avoid that, in this case, pulses appear at the output of the device which could simulate a difference frequency deviating from zero. the ferromagnetic core 30 is provided. Its bias winding 38 is, like that of the
Core 29, at a bias voltage which results in the bias magnetization indicated by 74 in FIG. The pulses b conducted via the bias winding 38 are therefore differentiated and the pulses shown in diagram j arise.
The diode 65 ensures that only positive voltage pulses occur at the regulating resistor 66. If the latter are now with the regulating resistor
66 occurring pulses h coincide, which is the case under the assumed circumstances, they cancel each other out in the case of two pulse series according to the example given above and the
The output voltage between terminal 6 and earth is zero. If the pulse series h and j do not coincide, only the pulses appearing at the regulating resistor 64 are passed through the transistor
68 amplified, whereas those occurring at resistor 66 are blocked because transistor 68 only lets through pulses that are negatively polarized with respect to earth. The RC networks 43 and 44 or 47 and 48 as well as the transistors 45 and 49 serve to improve the rectangular shape of the supplied pulses.
The transistor 53 with the networks 51 and 52 is used to amplify the output pulses d of the core 27 by so much that a current amplitude large enough to excite the core 28 arises. Although the output pulses of the cores 28 and 29 have already been rectified by means of the diode 57 and 58, it is advantageous to rectify the voltage at the terminals 61, 62 again via the diode 63. If the impulses appearing at the regulating resistors 59, 60 are not exactly identical and in phase, residual impulses in opposite directions still arise after their superposition

In order to count and register the pulses of the pulse series 3 generated in this way, the frequency of which is proportional to the product of two physical quantities, it becomes, as already explained, one
