Description

Process for the production of building and insulating material from small cork.

When carrying out the process forming the subject of patent no.13511, it has been shown that a uniform coating of the cork grains with pitch dust encounters certain difficulties in practice, which are mainly caused by the heat accumulating in the walls of the kneading machine and that caused by it Caking of the pitch dust can be induced. It was found that this deficiency can be eliminated by incorporating the pitch dust into the clay pulp.

The most expedient way to do this is to grind the poch together with dry clay and thereby initially produce an intimate mixture of clay and pitch flour. Of course, the pitch could also be ground on its own and the pitch flour added to the pulp when cooking the latter: however, it is advisable to grind the pitch together with dry clay, because this makes it easier to slurry the clay and also a lot! better pre-grinding of the pitch is brought about. The mixture is then boiled with a suitable addition of water and with constant stirring, the pulp is added to the cork in the kneading machine in the boiling hot state and the mass is kneaded in the usual way.

The pitch flour, which is evenly distributed in the clay, coats the cork grains with the clay at the same time as the clay, so that the latter are each encased in a thin layer of clay in which the finer pitch dusts are embedded evenly. This layer adheres all the more firmly to the cork grains as the pitch dust has already acquired a certain stickiness in the boiling heat of the clay pulp, which greatly promotes its adhesion to the cork.

The use of boiling hot clay pulp and the heating of the pitch dust at the same time have the effect that there is sufficiently warm moisture in the kneading machine to completely swell all the squeezed cork rolls that may be present in the cork, so that the molding machine a completely swollen cork material is delivered and after-swelling in the drying oven is avoided. The kneaded mass is shaped in a known manner and the shaped pieces are dried in a drying oven at around 120 ° -500 ° C.
