Process for the production of pulp.

For the production of pulp from wood, straw, esparto, sci) i) f cane, etc., a cooking liquor is mostly used which contains free sulfurous acid. However, this requires expensive leading and brick lining of the cooker. The use of neutral alkali sultites, specifically neutral sodium sulphite, for the production of the cooking liquor has therefore also been suggested, but it has emerged that straw, reeds and other vine-like plants were only incompletely digested and that the unexploited sorting out was costly Parts was required, but on the other hand a darker and more difficult to bleach fabric was obtained.

These inconveniences, as well as the leading or lining of the digesters, are alleviated by using the cooking liquor forming the subject of the present invention
 EMI1.1
Sulphurous acid produced, the content of sulphurous acid, depending on the intended use of the alkali fluctuates between 1 # 5-3%, and ammonia is introduced into this until it is completely neutralized; conversely, sulfurous acid can also be introduced into aqueous ammonia solution.

With this lye, the raw plants to be digested or the fibers that are difficult to bleach are placed in closed, indirectly heatable cookers with a pressure of 4-10 atm, which can be adapted to the individual variety. and a cooking time of 1 () -24 hours and processed in a known manner. This will all
 EMI1.2
very light-colored after boiling and easy to bleach and provide a beautiful, firm fiber that is excellently suited for making paper.

Almost all of the ammonia used can be recovered from the lye.
