Two-pole glow plug for internal combustion engines
The invention relates to a two-pole glow plug for internal combustion engines with a longitudinally drilled plug housing, a non-scaling metal sleeve arranged in its longitudinal bore and an electrically insulated glow wire resistor embedded in this sleeve, one end of which is connected to an electrically insulated pin connected to the sleeve for connecting one of the two Lines of the glow plug circuit and the other end of which is electrically conductively connected to the end of the sleeve on the combustion chamber side, which sleeve can be connected to the second line of the glow plug circuit.
In the known two-pole glow plugs of the type mentioned, the non-scaling metal sleeve is connected to a pipe section which penetrates the longitudinal bore of the plug housing and is insulated therein, which protrudes from the top of the plug housing and is provided with a support surface for connecting the second connection line of the glow plug circuit.
The glow plug is considerably simplified and cheaper if, according to the invention, the metal sleeve is electrically insulated in the plug housing and is provided with a contact piece for connecting the second connection line at its end that extends at least approximately into the vicinity of the end of the plug housing on the connection side.
This means that the pipe section previously required for connecting the second connection line is completely omitted, so that the glow plug consists of fewer details and its assembly is also considerably simplified.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the invention are illustrated on two glow plugs shown in longitudinal section.
According to Fig. 1, the longitudinal bore 1 of the candle housing 2 is penetrated by a scale-resistant metal sleeve 3, which is fastened in the longitudinal bore 1 by a vitreous melt flow 4. In the sleeve 3, a filament resistor 5 is embedded in an electrically insulated manner, the upper end of which is electrically connected to a bolt 6 which is fastened in an electrically insulated manner in the upper end of the sleeve 3 and serves to connect the line 7 of the glow plug circuit. The lower end of the filament resistor 5 is connected to the end 8 of the sleeve 3 on the combustion chamber side to conduct electricity. The sleeve 3 protrudes with its connection-side end through the plug housing 2 and there carries a contact piece 9 for connecting the second connection line 10 of the glow plug circuit.
An intermediate piece 11 made of insulating material and a fastening nut 12 are used in a manner known per se to tighten the connection lines 7 and 10.
The glow plug circuit runs from the connection line 7 via the bolt 6 and the glow wire resistor 5 to the base 8 of the sleeve 3 and from here via the jacket of the sleeve 3 and the contact piece 9 to the second connection line 10.
In the example according to FIG. 2, the scale-resistant metal sleeve 3 is not fastened directly in the longitudinal bore of the candle housing, but in an insulated manner in a support sleeve 13 using a glassy melt flow 4. The upper end of the support sleeve 13 is pressed into the widened end section of the longitudinal bore 1 of the housing 2. The lower end of the support sleeve 13 protruding into the combustion chamber has a bore section 14 running at a distance from the scale-proof sleeve 3, the inner wall of which is also provided with a glass flux insulation 4.
The purpose of the extension of the support sleeve 13 on the combustion chamber side is to fill the connection bore in the internal combustion engine, while the insulation of the wall of the bore section 14 prevents the formation of shunts due to the deposition of soot or carbon.

Instead of the vitreous melt flow, other suitable insulating means, such as mica, ceramic powder, cement, one or more phosphate layers or the like, can of course also be used.
