Man arbeitet z.

Process for the continuous production of hexachlorocyclopentadiene
The invention relates to a process for the continuous production of hexachlorocyclopentadiene by reacting pentanes with chlorine in the presence of catalysts at a temperature of at least 200 C.
It has been found that good results are achieved if nitrogen oxides or nitrogen oxychlorides are used as the catalyst and these are brought together in vapor form with the vapors of the starting hydrocarbon and chlorine and optionally a gaseous diluent in a reaction zone heated to the reaction temperature, so that the reaction components and the catalyst simultaneously wander through the zone in a homogeneous vapor phase, whereupon the vaporous reaction mixture emerging from the zone is cooled and the hexachlorocyclopentadiene is separated off from the condensate.
According to the invention, some of the catalysts mentioned can be replaced by a nitrogen compound from the group consisting of amines of the aliphatic, araliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic and heterocyclic series, nitriles, unsubstituted and amides of alkane and disubstituted mono- and disubstituted on the N by alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms Alkene monocarboxylic acids with up to 6 carbon atoms and unsubstituted and cyclic carboxylic acid amides substituted on the N by alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms in which the amido group forms a ring with 3 to 5 CH2 groups.
Suitable nitrogen oxides are in particular dinitrogen oxide (N2O), which is also known as laughing gas "or nitrogen oxide", nitrogen monoxide (NO) - often also referred to as nitrogen oxide or nitrogen oxide - and nitrogen dioxide (NO:,). Examples of nitrogen oxychlorides are nitro

Catalysts used with (NOCI) can already be used in amounts of less than 0.1% by weight, but expediently in amounts of 0.2% by weight and more, for example up to about 10% by weight - advantageously between 1% and 5% by weight, based on the amount of pentane used, are added.
One works z. B. in such a way that the
Vapor of a pentane, e.g.
B. of n-pentane, from
Isopentanes, of cyclopentane or of pentane mixtures, through a reaction zone heated to about 200-500 C - advantageously about 320-4200 C - and at the same time into the zone
Introduces catalyst in vapor form and chlorine gas in such an amount that the molar ratio of pentane to chlorine is about 1: 8-1: 15, advantageously 1:10-1: 11. Larger amounts of chlorine can also be introduced. Inert vaporous or gaseous diluents, e.g. B. nitrogen, noble gases or hydrogen chloride can be used in the conversion.
As a reaction vessel, for example, a vertical tube made of steel, quartz or ceramic material, e.g. B. made of porcelain or refractory glass serve. The tube, which is expediently heated from the outside, can be provided with guide or baffle plates on the inside or filled with fillers. The substances to be introduced are advantageously introduced into the pipe from above and the reaction mixture is withdrawn from the pipe below.
The particular advantage of the process according to the invention is that the catalysts used are volatile, inexpensive and easy-to-dose compounds and only give gaseous compounds after the reaction, so that the reaction vessel remains completely bright even during prolonged operation and the gaseous products are particularly easy to remove are to be separated from the conversion mixture.
The hexachlorocyclopentadiene can be separated off from the reaction mixture, for example, by cooling the mixture and distilling the condensed fractions.
The fractions remaining in gaseous form during the cooling of the reaction mixture can be wholly or partially returned to the reaction zone.
Example 1: A vertically arranged tube made of ceramic material with a diameter of 28 mm and a length of 200 mm is heated to 380 C from the outside by means of an electrical resistance heater.

The chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons can be admixed again when fresh, vaporous n-pentane is converted.
Some of the fractions remaining in gaseous form on cooling of the vaporous reaction mixture can be fed to a renewed reaction.
