Washing, cleaning, bleaching and other preparations for improving the appearance of
Fiber materials
The invention relates to new washing, cleaning, bleaching and other agents for improving the appearance of fiber materials with particularly favorable properties.
Optical bleaching and lightening agents have been widely used in recent years for the treatment of textiles, especially while they are being washed, and serve to counteract the yellow or non-white coloring which white textiles, in particular cellulose-based textiles, have or have accept repeated washing. Optical bleaching and lightening agents of this type also serve to improve dyed textiles, since they give them a special shine.
They are also largely used to give other cellulose materials, in particular paper, a white color.
Optical bleaching agents generally absorb light in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum and emit in the visible spectrum, usually the bluish-green to bluish-purple part of the same. The fluorescence of such compounds counteracts a yellow coloration in the white material, as it occurs, for example, when a white cotton, linen or polyamide fabric is repeatedly washed. The compounds used for the stated purpose must remain essentially stable when the material to be treated is colored.
In general, the best results are obtained with optical bleaching agents whose fluorescent color is complementary to the color of the aged fiber so that the colors cancel one another.
Since generally the most common non-white color of textiles resulting from aging or repeated washing is yellow, the most desirable optical colorant is one that fluoresces blue.
It is also important that the optical bleaching or Whitening agent is neither destroyed by bleach nor stripped from the fiber, d. H. it must be bleach-proof. Namely, such agents are generally incorporated into soaps and synthetic detergents for domestic use, and the objects which are washed with them are often subjected to bleaching with various bleaching agents, e.g. B. subjected to sodium hypochlorite. It is therefore desirable that the optical bleaching agent which is already on the fiber or in the treatment solution is attacked as little as possible by any bleaching agents that are present.
It has now been found that in order to achieve the properties mentioned at the outset, in particular to achieve a pure whiteness of cellulose or polyamide-containing materials, such as fabrics or paper, those agents are particularly suitable which, as optical bleaching and brightening agents, are compounds of the general formula

whiter appearance than after the same treatment with a cleaning agent which, with the exception of the optical brightener, has the same composition.
Example 3: Treatment of various textile products: a) Cotton goods: White cotton poplin is treated for 15 minutes at 50 JC in a bath containing 0.03%, calculated on the weight of the textile product, of one of the aforementioned optical brighteners according to the invention and 5% Glauber's salt (Liquid ratio 1:50).
After washing and drying, the material looks much lighter and whiter than before the treatment. b) Nylon goods: 10 parts of a pale yellowish nylon fabric are treated for half an hour at 80 ° C. in a bath (liquid ratio 1:40) which contains 0.005 parts, based on the weight of the textile product, of one of the above optical brighteners. After washing and drying in the air, the goods appear much whiter than before treatment. c) House linen: 1 part of white house linen is washed in the usual way at 80-90 C in 10 parts of washing liquid containing 3 g of curd soap, 2 g of soda and 0.005 g of one of the aforementioned optical brighteners, then rinsed and dried.
This gives the laundry a dazzling white appearance.
