<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Machine tool for making molds, countersinks, etc.
The so-called electrical discharge machining process has recently been used to manufacture dies, press molds, etc. In this case, the tool and workpiece represent the two electrodes of a spark gap. The tool electrode thus forms the matrix of the shape to be produced. It is guided against the workpiece to be machined, and the desired shape is burned out in the workpiece by the sparks jumping between the two.
It has been shown that the production of finished forms directly from the solid has certain disadvantages, which result in particular from the strong burn-off of the electrodes during pre-machining. One has therefore switched to machining the shape to be produced partly by erosion and partly by other known machining processes, in particular by milling.
The present invention relates to a particularly suitable arrangement for performing a sol-

Stand rigidly connected guide and guided displaceably in a preferably fixed by means of a stop feed end position.
In the previously known shaping of a workpiece by means of pre-machining by milling and post-machining by erosion, it is necessary between these two operations to adjust the recess created in the workpiece by the pre-machining for the subsequent second operation relative to the erosion tool. This adjustment process cannot be carried out without difficulties, because the. The recess produced during the pre-machining always has deviations from the model, which occur in particular with rough preparatory work and make it difficult to align the recess with respect to the erosion tool. With the combination according to the invention of a post-forming milling machine and an erosion machine, it is possible to avoid this difficult adjustment process.
The pre-machined workpiece is not aligned with the erosion tool between pre-machining and post-machining, but an adjustment of the model with respect to the erosion tool is made before the start of the milling process, u. betw. in a manner adapted to the post-forming machine.
The present invention will now be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment. In the accompanying drawing, FIG. 1 shows a copy milling machine designed according to the present invention in a front view and FIG. 2 shows the same machine in a side view.
The present example shows a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, u. between a copy milling machine in which a milling spindle moves depending on a stylus and a shape scanned by the stylus is simulated in the workpiece, in which according to the invention, in addition to the tool guided by the stylus, a head for receiving an electrical discharge machining tool is provided above the substrate carrying the workpiece is.
Located on the machine stand 1, supported by a bracket 2, is on a support arm 6

a stylus 3 and a work spindle 4 carrying the tool 5, for example a milling cutter. The holder of the stylus and work spindle is designed so that both can be moved together and in any coordinate direction, but always parallel to themselves. Also arranged on the machine stand are a table 10, which carries the workpiece 11, and a table 12, which carries the shape (model) 17 to be reproduced. Both tables have at least two crossing, horizontal guides that are used to set up the tool and workpiece.
The actuation takes place via the handwheels 13. Furthermore, both tables can be shifted separately from one another in the vertical direction and, which is important for the present case, can be shifted vertically, i.e. raised or lowered, together by actuating a handwheel 14. In addition to the handwheel 14, an electrically operated quick adjustment can also be provided for this purpose.
This machine thus represents a copy milling machine in which a milling spindle 4 is moved as a function of a stylus 3 and in this way the shape scanned by the stylus is reproduced in the workpiece 11 by means of the tool 5. Arrangements of this type are known and do not form the subject of the present invention. They are described, for example, in German patents No. 698542 and No. 848897.
According to the invention, the machine shown now has both a device for machining and a device for electrical discharge machining, both devices can optionally be brought into the working position opposite the base carrying the workpiece.
According to the illustration, in addition to the tool 5 guided by the stylus 3, an additional head 20 for receiving an electrical discharge machining tool 21 is provided, which is located above the substrate carrying the workpiece, that is, above the table 10. In the present arrangement, the head 20 is removable from the machine base. countries l attached. After removing the head 20, the tool 5 can therefore be brought over the workpiece 11 so that the latter can be preprocessed in the model 17 after the stylus 3 has been guided. Both the cutting tool and the erosion tool can therefore optionally be brought into the working position relative to the workpiece.
The process known as erosion and which has become known for some time consists in guiding a negative (a die) of the shape to be produced, that is to say tool 21, against the workpiece to be machined. Tool 21 and workpiece 11 represent two electrodes connected to the poles of a high-voltage generator or similar. The electrical sparks jumping between the two cause the workpiece to be slowly eroded or burned out, so that the desired shape is created by slowly lowering the tool 21 in the workpiece. The cavity created in this way is the desired shape, so that the electrical discharge machining tool represents the die of this shape, taking into account the erosion and the machining tolerances.
The processing takes place in an oil container. For this purpose, the workpiece 11 is surrounded by the oil container 22. The electrical device (generator, regulator, etc.) for carrying out the erosion process is housed in the switch cabinet 23.
In the present arrangement, the head carrying the electrical discharge machining tool is preferably mounted immovably in height on the machine stand. To carry out the erosion process, the table carrying the workpiece must therefore be guided from below against the stationary erosion tool.
Of course, the opposite case is also conceivable, namely that the workpiece remains at rest on its base while the tool is moved from above. The head 20 can either be mounted directly on the machine stand 1, as shown, or it can also be mounted on the beam 6 carrying the milling spindle 4 and stylus 3. In this case, means must be provided to determine this support beam with respect to the machine frame. As already mentioned, the head 20 is removably attached. After removal is now the support beam with work spindle and
The stylus can be moved freely over the workpiece.
The arrangement is handled in the following manner. The head 20 with the erosion tool 21 is attached to the machine frame or to the fixed copying device. The model 17 is attached to the model table 12 and adjusted with it by turning the handwheels belonging to this table so that the corresponding surface elements of the model and the erosion tool lie on a straight line that is parallel to the straight line connecting the tips of the copying pen and milling tool, and that these surface elements have the same distance from one another as these peaks. After the adjustment process of the model, the head 20 with the erosion tool 21 is removed from the machine stand or from the fixed copying device.
During the copying work that now follows, the copier pen tip is guided along the surface of the model, with the straight line connecting the milling cutter tip and copier pen tip continuously parallel to itself and the distance due to the carrier 6
