Sewing machine for the automatic generation of stitches that form different motifs
The subject of the invention is a sewing machine for the automatic generation of stitches forming different motifs, in which either the needle bar or the material back is actuated by a control device which determines the exact stitch point of the needle.
The sewing machine according to the invention is characterized in that its control device contains a program which supplies electrical signals, further through a series of electromagnets to which the signals are transmitted, through a series of movable stops controlled by the electromagnets, each two Positions, etc. between
a rest position and a working position, and finally by a displaceable control body, which is mechanically connected to either the needle carrier or the material pusher and is subject to the action of a drive device that moves the control body in one direction or the other, the control body having stop surfaces with which the movable stops cooperate in that the stop surfaces are arranged so that each movable stop determines two stop positions of the control body, depending on how it comes into contact with the stop when it is moved in one direction or the other.
The drawing shows an embodiment and a modified embodiment of the subject matter of the invention.
1 shows a section through part of a sewing machine according to the invention, in which only the parts necessary for understanding the invention are shown, FIG. 2 shows a plan view of a detail according to FIG. 1 on a reduced scale, FIG. 3 shows a plan view of a further detail according to FIG. 1, likewise on a reduced scale, and FIG. 4 a schematic side view of a detail of a modified embodiment.
The sewing machine shown according to the invention has a needle 1 fastened to a needle bar 2, the needle bar itself being mounted in a swivel frame 3 which is pivotably arranged about an axis 4 fixed in the housing of the machine. The needle bar 2 can also be mounted in a known "pendulum-like" pivot part. The arm 3a of the swivel frame 3 is connected with the aid of a rod 5 to a control body 6 which is mounted displaceably on the housing 7 of the machine and can perform a reciprocating movement.
The displacement of the control body 6 in one direction or the other is effected by two electromagnets 8 and 9, respectively. The amplitude of the displacement is limited by one or the other of a series of rods 10, 11 and 12 which are firmly connected to the plunger cores of the three electromagnets 13, 14 and 15, respectively. The rods 10, 11 and 12 are either in the rest position or in the working position; in the working position they penetrate into one of a series of holes 16, 17 and 18 provided in the control body 6. The holes 16, 17 and 18 have different diameters and each determine two different positions of the control body 6 when the corresponding rod is in the working position and touches the edge of the hole, depending on the direction in which the control body 6 is moved.
In this way, the holes 16, 17 and 18 determine six different positions of the control body 6, to which the two extreme positions left and right are added, which the control body 6 can assume when all stop rods are in the rest position.
The various electromagnets 8 and 9 as well as 13-15 are fed by a current source 19,

which is connected by means of a line 20 and a sliding contact 21 to a ring 22 surrounding a plate 23 made of insulating material. Contact pins 24 are arranged in the plate 23. A perforated disk 25 lies on the ring 22. Finally, five electrical contacts 26a-26e are each connected to the electromagnets 8 and 9 and 13-15 via the lines 27a-27e.
Corresponding to the arrangement of the perforations 28 which the disk 25 has, certain contact pins 24 are in electrical contact with the disk, while the others are isolated from them. Since the plate 23 carrying the disk 25 is rotated by the motor of the machine by means of a mechanism not shown, the energized contact pins feed the corresponding electromagnets as they pass the contacts 26.
The sewing machine according to the invention has several disks 25 with differently arranged perforations, the disks being easily interchangeable with one another and in this way the pattern of the seam can be changed.
It should be noted that in the embodiment shown, the drive is effected by the electromagnets 8 and 9 and could also be replaced by another mechanism, while the electromagnets 12-15 serve to select the position to be assumed by the control body 6.
The control device described and illustrated can also be applied to the back of fabric 29 (FIG. 4) instead of the needle. In this case it would be useful not to control the material pusher directly, but via an interposed selection device which is known per se for sewing machines and which determines the amplitude of the movements of the material pusher generated by the motor of the machine.
