   Österreichische PATENTSCHRIFT Nr. 19785.

   ERNST SIMON IN WIEN.

   Austrian PATENT LETTER No. 19785.

   ERNST SIMON IN VIENNA.

Sealing through plates for press mold side.

For the advantageous actuation of the pressing process protected in patent no. 19784, devices have been used which consist of one-piece pressing molds arranged one above the other, the cavities of which are located in one direction. In order to prevent the compacts produced in these molds from being directly connected to each other and in this way not only making it extremely difficult to dismantle the molds, but also from being damaged themselves, intermediate plates made of steel are provided with holes between the one-piece molds, either for individual or arranged for several cavities and thereby reduced the cross-sections between the individual cavities.

However, in order to prevent the oil, in which the press is heated, from penetrating into the molds, copper sealing rings had to be inserted between the molds placed one on top of the other. The ip of the previously mentioned patent
 EMI1.1
to use for sealing, which in practice proved to be more appropriate.

This hitherto indispensable use of copper sealing rings not only made the shapes more complicated, but also resulted in certain small debris, as the itupfel rings often cracked and thin layers of material also formed between the individual shapes. In fact, in order to fulfill their purpose, the sealing rings had to prevent the steel molds from closing closely together; the intermediate plate lay loosely between the steel molds and the small spaces between them were filled with the material that was lost in this way.

In order to eliminate these excesses, according to the present invention, to separate the cavities, an intermediate plate is used that covers the entire mold and is provided with holes, which consists of a material that is hard enough on the one hand to withstand the pressure of the pressed material at the passage points, on the other hand, soft enough to seal the molds, so that the arrangement of special sealing rings made of copper is not necessary. A particularly suitable material for this intermediate plate turns out to be
 EMI1.2
spared, because the pressure is now distributed over the entire shape instead of only acting on the edge.

**WARNUNG** Ende CLMS Feld Kannt Anfang DESC uberlappen**. PATENT CLAIM: Device for carrying out the process protected by patent no. 19784, consisting of two or more compression molds arranged one above the other, the cavities of which in one direction are separated by perforated intermediate plates, characterized by the arrangement of brass intermediate plates that cover the entire mold and perforated at the passages or another material suitable for sealing, for the purpose of using the intermediate plates not only to separate the cavities, but also to use them at the same time for sealing, whereby the special sealing rings are omitted. ** WARNING ** End of CLMS field may overlap beginning of DESC **.
