EMI1.2

Crank-sewing resp. Embroidery machine for sewing on ribbons, braids, etc. like
When sewing on certain types of tapes, braids, etc. The like. The stitch by which they are attached to the fabric must not be visible and as a result, this sewing work could only be done by hand.
The present invention now aims to enable those materials to be sewn by crank machines by means of a stitch which, depending on the thickness of the material to be sewn, is completely invisible, or very little visible in the case of very thin strands or ribbons. This is achieved in that the needle does not, as before, penetrate the material perpendicularly to the same, but rather that the latter is bent over before the needle is punctured in such a way that it is pierced longitudinally by the needle at the bent point.
In Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, the head of a crank machine is shown to which the new device is attached. The material 1 to be sewn runs in a known manner through the central tube of the machine down into the guide 2, in which the needle 3 and the rabbit 1 also go up and down.
The guide 3 is by an automatic device in the following manner on and
EMI1.1
and thus moves the latter up and down as well.
To steer this device with the crank, a ring 22 is attached to the cannon tube 23 .. which is provided with a fork-shaped incision through which the piece 15, without being hindered in its vertical movement, is carried along in all directions of the material transport .
The material to be sewn runs behind the needle into the guide 2 and then around a web 17 (FIGS. 2, 3 and 4) in order to get back out onto the fabric below this web on the same side of the guide 2. At his passing
EMI1.2
the latter has to pierce the material in its longitudinal direction.
When the needle 3 climbs up, first the cannon 4 presses on the material to be sewn and holds it firmly (Fig. 3); then the cannon 4 and the guide 2 rise until they reach their highest position (FIG. 4), in which the material transport then takes place.
As can be seen from the drawings, no stitches appear on the upper side of the sewing material 1, because they remain between the same and the fabric 18.
Of course, this work can not only be done on any crank machine, whether it works with a hook needle or a threaded needle, but also on sewing machines of other systems, in which case the cannon 4 is omitted.

When sewing on thin strands or ribbons, although the needle also pierces them in the longitudinal direction, the seam will be slightly visible, but then it does not appear like a tambourine or lockstitch seam, but in individual small stitches that do not are related and resemble the seam which is produced in the usual way by hand (Fig. 6). To produce the same, the web 17 shown in a horizontal view in FIG. 7 must be provided with a small open cavity 19 for the needle to pass through.
