B. Polystyrol, in Betracht.

Airspace insulated telecommunications cable with one or more concentric or twisted cables
Double lines.
The invention relates to an airspace-insulated telecommunication cable, in particular a high-frequency cable, with one or more concentric or twisted double lines, the individual conductors of which are wrapped in open screw turns to form the air space insulation with continuous spacers consisting of dimensionally stable insulating materials, preferably of polystyrene, which individually form the shape have an open or closed thread winding.
According to the invention, in such a cable, the thread of the thread winding serving as a spacer is designed with a rectangular or approximately rectangular cross section. The rectangular cross section expediently has a curved shape on the outside.
Because the spacer in the form of an open or closed thread winding is manufactured according to the invention from a thread with a rectangular or approximately rectangular cross-section, the spacer has a relatively high strength against both externally acting compressive loads and tensile stresses. It has been shown that the tensile strength of the spacer designed in this way is so great that the spacer can be stranded around the conductor without suffering any harmful changes in shape. The spacer is advantageously wound around the conductor in such a way that the winding direction of the thread forming the spacer is directed opposite to the winding direction of the spacer around the conductor.
In particular, cellulose derivatives, synthetic resins and polyvinyl compounds, e.g. B. polystyrene, into consideration. The polyvinyl compounds, in particular polystyrene, have the particular advantage that their dielectric loss angle is very small at high frequencies and that they are unhygroscopic. The manufacture of the filament winding from polystyrene proves to be particularly expedient, which is injected in the warm state with simultaneous stretching to form filaments with a rectangular or approximately rectangular cross-section. Polystyrene mixtures, e.g. B. Chewable polystyrene mixtures can be used.
The invention is illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2.
Fig. 1 shows a high frequency cable with a single twisted pair. The high-frequency cable consists of the two conductors 10 and 11, which are individually surrounded by a spacer 12 designed according to the innovation in the form of an open thread winding made of dimensionally stable insulating materials. As can be seen from the figure, the rectangular cross-section has a curved shape on the outside. A closed insulating material sleeve 13 in the form of a tape winding is arranged over the helically wound spacer. The cores insulated in this way are twisted with one another and surrounded one after the other with an insulating sleeve 14, a highly conductive screen 15, a further insulating sleeve 16 and a cable jacket 17.
The novel design of the spacer can of course also be used if the cable contains a twisted star quad line instead of a twisted pair.
In Fig. 2, a high-frequency cable with a concentric conductor arrangement is shown. The spacer 21 designed as an open thread winding is wound helically around the central conductor 20. This is followed in sequence by the insulating sleeve 22, the return conductor 23, a further insulating sleeve 24 and the cable sheath 25.
