Method and device for soldering or welding the edges of the bent and juxtaposed edges of thin or easily meltable sheets.
It is already known to solder sheets made of easily melting metals in such a way that the sheet edges are bent open and the welding or soldering is carried out by means of pistons only on the bent parts, the sheet metal being supported by a heat-insulating (asbestos plate) or heat-dissipating plate (iron plate ) is protected from the effects of heat. However, this method has shortcomings because the most favorable welding method, autogenous welding, cannot be used, and vertically attached or curved sheets cannot be treated. These disadvantages are avoided according to the present invention.
In contrast, the subject matter of the invention is a method and a device by means of which the welding or soldering of thin metal sheets can be carried out very quickly and easily by flame action (autogenous). This is possible because the sheet metal edges are pressed together and the flame is brushed on them in one operation, without the edges having to be clamped beforehand. Like. Would have to be kept. The sheet metal edges are also cut to size in the same process.
The device according to the invention forms a slide which is inevitably guided along the bent sheet edge and which carries both the protective plates against the penetration of heat and the solder or welding flame or the like.
An example embodiment of the device is shown in Fig. 1 in section along the line I-I of Fig. 2, in Fig. 2 in plan and in Fig. 3 in cross plan. Two strong iron plates 1, 1 'each have two recesses in which the rollers 2 run, by means of which the device is guided over the sheet metal 10 to be soldered. Another pair of rollers 3, 3 'is attached to brackets 5, 5' which are screwed or riveted to the support plates 1, 1 'and spaced apart by means of a sheet 6, corresponding to the respective thickness of the sheet metal 10 (FIG. 3). Furthermore, the brackets 5, 5 'have a carrying device 8 for fastening a knife 9, which cuts off the bent sheet edge at the same height.
The rollers 4, 4 'are also fastened to the support plates 1, 1' by means of a bracket 7, 7 'and are pressed against one another by a spring 11 in order to apply pressure to the bent sheet metal and to any unevenness caused by the welding to compensate, especially to help over cross-welded seams. In addition, support brackets 12 with ball sockets 13 are attached to both plates 1, 1, which are used to carry the soldering or welding torch 14 and to hold it at the same distance from the bleed edge.
With this device, the metal sheets can also be soldered and welded when they rest in a vertical direction, as well as when they are attached over a curved surface. The points of intersection of the soldering or welding do not constitute an obstacle. The work goes on very quickly and safely.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for soldering or welding the edges of the bent and juxtaposed edges of thin or easily fusible sheet metal, in which the abutting sheet metal parts are protected from the effects of heat by covering them, characterized in that the pressing together and cutting to size of the sheet metal edges as well as the application of the flame in one Operation.
