<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Circuit arrangement for television purposes for generating symmetrical, sawtooth-shaped voltages.
The invention is based on the requirement for symmetrical sawtooth voltages for television purposes either by means of two resistors and a single capacitor, as shown in FIG. 1, or by means of two resistors and two capacitors, as illustrated in FIG , in particular for deflecting the cathode ray in a Braun tube.
Before the problem underlying the invention, which is in the generation of the grid

u. zw. In such a way that the potential of the upper occupancy tends towards the potential of the positive pole of an auxiliary voltage source, which is only indicated by a plus sign in FIG. 1, while the potential of the lower occupancy approaches the ground potential.
The size of the capacitor 10 and the two resistors 11 and 12 is now selected in such a way that only the linear part of the exponential function is run through up to that point in time. At the time t1, a positive voltage pulse is transmitted to the grid of the tube 13 via the transformer 15, as a result of which the tube becomes current-permeable and the capacitor 10 begins to discharge again via the cathode-anode path of this tube. Let this discharge take place again up to the voltage v on the capacitor, which is reached at time t2. At the point in time t2, the pulse on the grid of the tube 13 should disappear, that is, this tube should become current-impermeable again, so that the process described can then be repeated.
As can be seen in FIG. 3, the voltage across the capacitor 10 consists of a direct voltage component, which also occurs on the coupling capacitors 18, 19, and an alternating voltage component, which comes into effect through the capacitors on the deflection plates 16 of the Braun tube 17. A direct voltage component, on the other hand, cannot occur at the plates 16 because they are short-circuited via the resistors 20, 21. The time constant of the capacitance of the deflection plates 16 and the resistors 20, 21 is to be made large compared to the fundamental frequency of the desired sawtooth curve. The potentials of the two deflection plates 16 therefore change in a push-pull manner with respect to the potential of the anode 22 of the Braun tube.
This is shown in Fig. 4, in which

see is at a fixed potential, is the case, the grid bias can be obtained by a suitable tap on the anode voltage battery or the potentiometer of a power supply device.
It is also not possible to use a particularly small power supply unit to generate the negative grid bias, since this would result in a relatively large capacitance between the cathode and earth in addition to being too expensive.
According to the invention, the grid bias of the tube should therefore be generated by charging a capacitor located in the grid lead by means of the grid current itself.
One embodiment of the invention consists in using a circuit known under the name "blocking oscillator" for the tube 18, which has inductive feedback between the anode and the grid circuit and a resistor capacitor element in the grid lead.
This circuit arrangement is shown in FIG. 5, 11 or on the assumption of a circuit according to FIG. 2. The inductive feedback between the anode and the grid circuit is provided by a transformer whose primary winding is denoted by 25 and whose secondary winding is denoted by 26 , and the resistor capacitor element in the grid lead is denoted by 27.
A bloc1. As is well known, the ing oscillator works in such a way that, as soon as a voltage

The current increases rapidly until the grid current is used, and the capacitor of the RC element 27 is charged by the grid current. The anode current only lasts for a short time and the tube 13 is de-energized in a subsequent long period of time. During this long period of time, the capacitor of the PC element discharges again to such an extent that when a new voltage pulse arrives, the tube 13 is made conductive again.
In a further embodiment of the invention, which is shown in Fig. 6, is in the

formator 15, a capacitor 28, but no feedback winding present. The resistor 29 can either, as shown in FIG. 6, lie between the cathode and grid of the tube 18 or else directly parallel to the capacitor 28.
The arrangement according to FIG. 6 also works in such a way that with a positive voltage pulse on the grid of the tube 18, the capacitor 28 is charged by the grid current and flows through the resistor 29 and possibly via the secondary winding of the transformer 15 until the next voltage pulse arrives discharges again so far that the next positive voltage pulse can again generate an anode current and a grid current.
According to the invention, for example, in television receivers, instead of the transformer 15 in FIGS. 1, 2, 5 and 6, the load resistance of a detector circuit can also be directly fed into the

which is modulated with the picture content of the television broadcasts and with the sync pulses, rectified in such a way that the sync pulses cause the anode current in the tube 18 to set in.
This is based on FIG. 7, which has a circuit according to FIG. 1 as a prerequisite and a
EMI2.5
The carrier frequency in the television transmitter should be set in such a way that the carrier amplitude, starting from a certain amplitude amount other than zero, which corresponds to the black image areas, is enlarged by lighter image areas and, if necessary, reduced to zero by the synchronization pulses (so-called gap synchronization). The detector circuit consists of the secondary winding 32 of a transformer, which supplies the carrier-frequency voltage, a diode 31 and the load resistor 30 with a capacitor 33 lying parallel to it for filtering out the carrier frequency.
The arrangement according to FIG. 7 operates in such a way that the image content causes a voltage drop across the load resistor 30, which is indicated by the plus and minus signs entered. In the case of a synchronization pulse, the voltage drop across resistor 30, u. or possibly to the value zero, as a result of which the anode current begins to flow in the tube 13. Otherwise, the process takes place as described with reference to FIG. 5.
In the case of a circuit arrangement according to FIG. 7, it may be expedient to insert a constant bias voltage source into the grid circle, u. either as shown in FIG. 8 or as shown in FIG. 9 by a battery. Since switching on such a battery does not represent a satisfactory technical solution for the reasons explained above with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, an RC element 34 or 35 should be inserted, as illustrated in FIGS. 10 and 11.
In FIG. 10, the RG element 34, which must have a time constant that is greater than the fundamental frequency of the desired sawtooth voltages, lies between point D and the load resistor 30 and, according to FIG. 11, the RC element 35, its time constant as well is to be dimensioned like that of the RC element 34, between point D and the tube cathode.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The load resistor of a detector circuit can also be switched on in a manner similar to the circuit according to FIGS. 7, 10 and 11 if the grid bias of the tube 13 is generated with a circuit as shown in FIG. 6, that is without a feedback winding.
Circuits of the type described can be used, in addition to Braun's tubes in television receivers, for example, also for cathode ray image scanners with or without memory effect and, for example, also for Braun's tubes in television transmitters, which are intended to produce a moving point of light of constant brightness for scanning movies.
Furthermore, circuits of the type described can be used both for the purposes of line deflection and for deflection in the vertical image coordinate.
