Pyrophor-Feuprzeug.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Pyrophoric Feuprzeug.
The invention relates to a pyrophoric lighter, the wick cap of which is connected to the windbreak jacket on the fuel tank by transmission elements in such a way that the opening and closing movement of the wick cap takes place as a function of the longitudinal displacement of the windbreak jacket.
Since, however, in the known lighter the windbreak jacket and the wick cap controlled by it - apart from the natural resistance to movement - are arranged to be completely free to move and in the closed position are only held on the wick tube by the contact pressure of the doeht cap produced by hand, on the one hand the conclusion of the Wicks very poor, on the other hand, the lighter often opens in an undesirable way, especially in the user's pocket. Both hands must also be used to operate the lighter.
The subject of the invention is a pyrophoric lighter, which eliminates the aforementioned deficiencies in that the windbreak jacket is under the influence of a spring or the like that acts on its displacement into the starting position and thus on the automatic closing of the lighter. This not only achieves complete sealing of the wick, but also facilitates the handling of the lighter due to the rapid guidance of the parts that slide against each other, so that the lighter can be operated with one hand without difficulty. The spring is arranged far away from the ignition point and therefore eliminates the damaging effect of the flame.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the subject invention is shown, u. Between Fig. 1 shows the pyrophoric lighter in side view, partly in section, Fig. 2 in front view when not in use and Fig. 3 in side view during use.
The pyrophoric lighter consists of an appropriately tubular gasoline container a, which laterally carries the flint sleeve c carrying the friction wheel b and is provided with a longitudinally displaceable windbreak jacket d which is continuously slotted in the area of the flint sleeve c. In order to make the opening and closing movement of the wick cap e dependent on the displacement of the windbreak jacket d, the wick cap e is articulated to the windbreak jacket d in a known manner by means of lateral arms f, while the arms f are linked to the windbreak jacket d by means of a bracket g acting as a link are articulated with an eyelet h provided on the fuel tank a.
The eyelet h is formed by the upper correspondingly bent end of a rod i, which is fastened on the petrol tank a opposite the flint sleeve c in such a way that the rod i, which extends only over the upper part of the petrol tank, continues in a pressed into the petrol tank a and against its bottom to free running groove i! finds, in the area of which the lower end of the rod i, which has been transformed into a mandrel m as a result of a step k, still protrudes. In the groove l a compression spring n is inserted, which is supported with its one end encompassing the mandrel m on the step k, while the other end of the spring finds its abutment on a lobe o of the windbreak jacket d bent at right angles.
So that the rod i does not form an obstacle when the windbreak jacket d is advanced, the windbreak jacket has a slot f corresponding to the width of the rod i, which merges downward into a groove-shaped bulge s measured according to the transverse profile of the rod t. The bulge s increases the space to accommodate the spring n and covers it at the same time.
To use the lighter it is advantageously gripped by one hand in such a way that the thumb comes to rest on the friction wheel b from above, but the other fingers enclose the windbreaker jacket (!. If you now apply pressure on the friction wheel with your thumb bauds.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
so does the fuel tank a counter to the action of the compressing spring? With respect to the held windbreak jacket d downwards, the latter moved upwards relative to the petrol tank a, in the course of this movement the wick cap e automatically lifts off the wick tube and is turned to the side as a result of the tensioned bow g (Fig. 3).
On the other hand, the thumb will involuntarily make the friction wheel b rotate and therefore cause the spark to be emitted, so that the use of the lighter actually requires nothing other than the actuation of the friction wheel b. In the open state, the thumb can be lifted off the friction wheel b without fear of the spring n closing the lighter prematurely, because the fingers clasping the slotted windbreak jacket d exert sufficient pressure on it to press the windbreak jacket against the fuel tank and to make a mutual displacement of these parts impossible. But if the fingers are loosened,

the wick cap e in the closed position.
Keeping the lighter open is made much easier if one or more trough-shaped depressions p are provided in the jacket of the fuel tank a, in which one of the fingers finds a hold by itself after the windbreak jacket d has been pushed forward and therefore acts as a windbreak jacket a! with the gasoline tank a coupling member is effective. Instead, a mechanical locking device such. B. a snapper to automatically intercept and hold the Windsehutzmantel d in its advanced position.
