Process for improving cement, cement mortar and concrete.
The invention relates to a method for improving cement and cement mortar or a means for this. It is known to influence the properties of the cement by adding certain salts to the cement during manufacture or processing. For example, chlorides, nitrates, soluble carbonates and bicarbonates have been used as such additives. The present invention relates to a method by which certain additives are also made to the cement or cement mortar and which, above all, enables the setting or hardening capacity of the cements to be accelerated or regulated as desired, in addition to increasing the density and strength properties of the cements.
The method of the invention consists in this. that sulphocyanic acid (HCNS) or salts of this acid are added to cement, cement mortar or concrete at any stage of their production before or during processing. The improvement of the cement by the means indicated is particularly evident in those cements which are rich in lime; but also cements with less lime experience a significant improvement in their properties. The process according to the invention is technically so particularly valuable because the sulfocyanate salts primarily used are characterized by their easy solubility, so that the processing of the same in the cement and the uniform distribution in the mortar or concrete is guaranteed.
The sulfocyanate salts, for example, the sulfocyanides of ammonium, calcium, potassium, barium, aluminum and iron. Chromes u. a. m., one can let act on cements individually as well as in the most diverse combinations and get the corresponding effects depending on the type of salt or the combination chosen. So it is e.g. B. possible. to achieve considerable sealing effects on cement by using aluminum sulfoeyanide or barium sulfocyanide. It has also been shown that the sulfocyanides can also be mixed with other salts, such as chlorides, nitrates, etc., so that the combined use of corresponding salts or
Salt groups lets the influence of the same on cements be dosed at will. The effect of the calcium sulfocyanide shows itself characteristically, for example, in the setting time. With a 21'Be strong aqueous solution of the calcium salt, the setting time of a Portland cement is shortened from 6 to 7 hours to about 10 to 20 minutes. With the same solution, the setting time of an iron Portland cement is reduced from 8 hours to around 23 minutes.
A strong shortening of the setting time also occurs when using the solution of the aluminum salt, at the same time a strong increase in temperature goes hand in hand with this (when using a 21 Be strong solution, temperature increase up to 630 C), which is particularly important for outdoor work in frosty conditions.
When using a mixture of calcium salt and aluminum salt in a ratio of 1: 1, it is possible to reduce the binding time to a few minutes, e.g. B. to shorten about 5 minutes. A temperature increase of around 400 C occurs. The particularly good spatial stability of the cement mortar or concrete produced in this way is to be emphasized as remarkable. In the mixture, the aluminum sulfocyanide can also be replaced by aluminum chloride or aluminum nitrate or, conversely, the calcium sulfocyanide can be replaced by the corresponding chlorides or nitrates. Combinations of chlorides with sulfocyanides which contain the same cations also produce corresponding effects. A mixture of sulfocyanide with calcium chloride or calcium chloride is particularly effective.
Highlight calcium nitrate and aluminum chloride or aluminum nitrate.

The ready solubility of the barium sulfoeyanide also enables this salt to be used extensively, both alone and in combination. Here, too, an acceleration of the setting or hardening can be determined, but above all the essential sealing effects are remarkable.
The sulioeyanides of chromium, magnesium and the like act in a similar way. like
The salts or salt mixtures mentioned can be added during the production process of the cement or only when it is processed into mortar or concrete; the use of a liquid in which the salts or salt mixtures are dissolved has already been referred to above.
