  Holzgasgenerator.

  Wood gas generator.

The gas calorific value achieved is very low in all wood gas generators with a downward draft to operate engines. The cause of this is the much too large amount of water vapor, which comes partly from the moisture in the wood and partly from the so-called decomposition water from the hydrogen and oxygen in the wood. As a result of the partial conversion of this water vapor into hydrogen and carbon oxide and as a result of the excess water vapor, too much heat is withdrawn from the glowing zone, and the temperature drops as a result, which is known to cause a reduction in the reduction of carbonic acid to carbon dioxide.

Attempts have been made to reduce the amount of water vapor by surrounding the filling shaft of the generator with a smooth, cylindrical cooling jacket communicating with it above and below for the purpose of condensation. However, the cooling surface of this jacket is so small that no noticeable success can be recorded.

According to the invention, this disadvantage is to be avoided in that the cooling jacket surface is enlarged as much as possible by corrugations or ribs. In the case of very moist wood, the carbonization gas could possibly also be sucked off by a fan, drained in a separate cooler and then returned. This device is not shown in the drawing.

In the drawing, a is the full shaft, which is surrounded by a cooling jacket b, which is equipped with shafts, ribs or the like. The carbonization gas can enter the space between the two jackets at the top, cools down, excretes water, which can be carried away through tube d, and returns through several slits e back into the visual space.

There is also c a cover for the filling chute, y the glow zone jacket and A the associated outer jacket. The space g between the two is filled with heat-insulating material. The generator also has a grate plate i, cleaning openings k, an air supply pipe I with outlet openings M, which are protected against blockages by a cap n, and a gas discharge nozzle o with inlet openings p and protective cap q.
