Expansionsschalter.

Expansion switch.
The invention relates to an expansion switch for interrupting alternating currents, i. i. a switch in which the interruption arc is in a closed, filled with switching fluid
EMI1.1
In order to generate an expansion of the pressure gradient required for extinguishing per unit of time over at least one current zero passage, it is essential that the steam flow suddenly begins under the effect of a sufficiently high pressure difference. If small currents are switched off, the extinguishing of the arc can be questioned due to insufficient vapor development, therefore too low an expansion pressure.
The idea of the invention is to initiate the expansion of the vapor from the switching chamber only until the vapor pressure required to extinguish the arc has formed. The evaporation initiated by the switch-off arc when the contact pieces are disconnected is continued longer with small currents than with arcs with a high current intensity.
In the figure, an embodiment of the invention is shown.
On the bottom of a pressure-resistant switching chamber 10, which is attached to an insulator 19, a fixed Sehaltstück 12 is arranged. If the switching chamber is made of metal, a movable switching element 11 designed as a switching pin is introduced into the switching chamber through an inserted cover 1: 3 made of insulating material. A locking piece 14, which is connected to a piston 15, faces a locking surface of the switching pin 11. The piston 15 can be moved against the pressure of a spring 16.
A switching fluid 18 is so high in the holding chamber that the switching pin 11 protrudes into it even after the switching pieces have been separated. When switching off, the movement of the switch pin 11 is in
EMI1.2
possible that the switching pin 11 can move away from the fixed switching piece 12 by a small amount. An arc is drawn, which vaporizes the switching fluid. If a sufficient amount of steam has developed to extinguish the arc, the piston 15 is pushed back against the spring 16 by the steam pressure in the switching chamber 10 and the locking of the switching pin 11 by the locking piece 14 is thereby canceled.
The switching pin 11 moves further in the disconnection direction and is supported in its movement out of the switching chamber by the steam pressure. The arc is extinguished by condensation of the expanding vapor in the arc chamber during the current passage.
When high short-circuit currents are interrupted, the vapor pressure required to extinguish the arc is reached in a very short time. In this case, there is the risk that the locking piece 14 will be damaged by the switching pin 11 moved out of the switching chamber with great force and speed.
The locking piece 14 is therefore expediently connected in an articulated manner to the piston 15 and pulled downwards by a strong spring. In the case of strong breaking forces, the locking piece is flexible, in the case of low breaking forces it is rigid.
