wirken.

EMI1.1
Act.
In case 2 it is therefore a suspension of fine droplets in the air; H. a poisonous mist, in the case of 3. a suspension of solid particles, d. H. a poisonous smoke. Protection against gases and vapors is relatively easy and uses the chemical filling in the case of chemically reactive substances, and adsorption in the case of less reactive substances, be it through active charcoal or another adsorbent.
The active charcoal does not protect against poisonous mists and vapors, since the effect of the active charcoal and similar substances is based on compression and condensation of the vapors of the poisonous substances in the pores and therefore only vapors and non-liquid or even solid particles are removed by the activated carbon.
Since the mist or smoke particles have so-called Brownian molecular motion. they easily penetrate the passable filters and irritate the human organism.
These particles can be removed from the air either by electrostatic precipitation or by mechanical filtration. Any mechanical filtration is considerably difficult to carry out because, among other things, parts of a very small diameter have to be stopped by the filter, but the filter must not offer any great resistance, since otherwise faster movement would not be possible in the mask due to a lack of air. In order to make the resistance smaller, you have to choose large filters so that today's filter inserts against fog and smoke take up over half of the usable space in the entire filter.
The invention overcomes this disadvantage of the mechanical filter in that the physico-chemical filter is connected to the mechanical one in such a way that the filter consisting of fibers is carbonized and activated.
Example of a production process:
The plant fibers are cut into short pieces and compressed into a compact mass with the addition of binding agent, which is then charred by drying on a known basis.
This results in a filter insert which, in contrast to the previous filter inserts (made of felt, cellulose or the like), consists entirely of considerably porous active charcoal and therefore protects against poisonous gases as well as against fog and smoke.
This filter has the advantage that with a higher output it allows the filter dimensions to be reduced by half or, with the same dimensions, to increase the filter output by more than 100%.
