Process for the production of white base glasses.

If tin oxide is added to the finished enamel or glaze as a mill additive, it is known that the same de-icing effects can be achieved with far smaller amounts of the additive than when the opacifier is melted in at the same time. However, if you try to melt a white cover glaze made in this way, which contains about 6% tin oxide, at the stoving temperature that is usual for the application of base glazes, i.e. at about 900-950 ° C, then it loses all covering power and also foams up strongly. Only glazes which contain much larger amounts of tin oxide (about 25%) can withstand such high temperatures, but are too expensive for this reason.

It has now been found that even low-tin glazes at the high melting temperatures d? r basic enamel? Their deeking power is retained when additives are added to the enamel or glaze mass on the mill, which increase the viscosity of the melting glaze. The alkaline earths or magnesium in the form of their water-insoluble compounds, especially the carbonates, have proven to be suitable means for this. If you z. B. a 6% tributant, e.g. B.
