Magazingrammophon.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Magazine gramophone.
The invention relates to magazine gramophones, i. H. Gramophones in which a number of records are automatically placed one after the other on the turntable, played and removed from it again in order to make the turntable free for the reception of a new record without requiring any activity on the part of the supervisor while the various records are being played.
In known designs for which the invention is suitable, plates were arranged so that they were successively removed from a stepped support located above the center of the turntable and placed on the turntable and at the end of playing a plate a second plate was placed on the first plate, etc., with the result that after playing a series of plates, the turntable had to carry a relatively large pack of plates and sliding between the plates was inevitable.
This has been a major drawback which the main object of the present invention is to avoid. There are already known magazine gramophones with which at the end of playing a record

in order to effect this advancement by a member which can move upwards under the edge of the plate in order to lift it on one side so that it is thrown from the turntable as the turntable continues to rotate. On the other hand, it is also known to arrange the turntable so that it can move vertically by lifting up to receive a plate and, at the end of the game, letting the plate sink into a recess in a fixed cover plate or the table so that the plate remains and can be pushed out of the way via the top plate or table.
In the subject matter of the invention, the plates are lined up on a support which is located above the center of the turntable, and are automatically caused to slide one after the other along the support onto the turntable. According to the invention, a spindle is arranged, which can move vertically through the turntable into such a position that it touches the lower end of the support or comes close to it when a new plate is to be lowered; it thus guides the plate as it moves down from the support. However, the spindle leaves a gap at the end of the playing of a plate so that the plate can be moved sideways from the turntable.
The successive operations that are necessary for the vertical movement of the spindle and the lowering of a new plate from the support are expediently effected by cams which are arranged on a shaft which is automatically set in rotation when the playing of a plate is finished. The spindle can be moved in the vertical direction against the action of a spring by a part which rests on a flange or the like of the spindle, is rotatable in a vertical plane and is pivotable about its pin by a second part which is in a horizontal plane Level can move.
It has proven to be particularly expedient to use a stepped support for carrying the plates so that a new plate is lowered by moving it in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the support. This movement can of course easily be effected by one of the cams of the shaft mentioned.
For example, the invention is illustrated in the drawings, e.g. between shows 1 shows a plan in which the tonearm is not shown and the turntable is also intended to be lifted, FIG. 2 shows a

As it progresses across the platen, it rotates platen 25, Fig. 1, about axis 26 in a counterclockwise direction. A wire 27 is also rotatably attached at 26 and is urged into frictional contact with the plate 25 by a spring (not shown). This wire 27 is now moved clockwise across the plate 25 by a cam 28 which is attached to a wheel 29 which is rotatably arranged on a pivotable lever 30 and is in turn driven by a toothed wheel 31 of the notor's spindle 15.
Each time the wire 27 is moved by the cam 28, a stop 32 attached to the wire 27 is brought in the direction of the path of an upstanding flange 33 which forms part of a rotatable lever 34 which itself reattaches a rotatable lever 35 is attached. After the bent tip of the wire 27 has been grasped by the cam 28, the latter grips first the lever 34, which it pivots, and then the lever 35, which also swings around its pin, during its next rotation, until the cam 28 at its further Rotation releases both levers, which are turned back by spring action. The consequence of this is that the upstanding flange 33 moves in a closed path which passes through the point to which the stop 32 of the wire 27 has been pressed by the cam 28.
However, as long as the tonearm 24 continues to move over the plate, the pivoting of the plate 25 frictionally pushes the wire 27 back with the result that the flange 33 and stop member 32 do not touch. As soon as the tonearm is stationary because the needle has reached the last groove on the record, the flange 33 is gripped by the stop 32 standing in its way, so that a rotatable hook member 36 is left in the path of a pin 37 attached to the wheel 29 .
The pin 37 engages in the hook 36, with the result that the wheel 29 cannot rotate and as a result the whole lever 30 swings around its pin and a wheel 38 comes into engagement with the wheel 39, which previously by the engagement of a pin of the lever 30 was secured against rotation with a groove on a disk which is attached to the underside of the wheel 39. When the lever 30 swings, the pin disengages from the groove and cannot slide back in until the wheel 39 has made one complete turn, so that the lever 30 will not move until the various operations caused by the rotation of the wheel 39 have been completed caused, can swing back again by spring action.
The wheel 39 carries a rod 40 which is connected to a lever 41 rotatable at 42, so that as soon as the wheel 39 rotates, the lever 41 transversely; is pivoted to the machine. The lever 41 carries an arcuate rod 43 which engages a roller 44 and causes a barrel guide 45 to pivot about an axis 46 so that a rod 47 fixedly connected to the tone arm 24 is lifted up
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
becomes. When the tonearm 24 has been lifted up by this means, it is pushed outward, u. by means of a plate 48 which is rotatably arranged at the end of the lever 41 and which engages with a pin 49 which extends upwards from a plate 50 rigidly connected to the tone arm.
Approximately at the end of the outward movement of the lever 41, the pin 49 enters a slot 51 in the plate 48.
When the tonearm has first been raised and then pushed outward, the path is free for the advancement of that disk which is located on the turntable 16 and which is indicated by the dash-dotted line 52 (FIG. 1). The advancement of the plate is effected by a cam 53 (FIGS. 4 and 5) which is attached to a sleeve 54 surrounding a fixed spindle 55. A wheel 56, which meshes with the wheel 39, is also attached to the sleeve 54. In this way, when the wheel 39 starts rotating, will the cam become? rotated and pushes against a roller 60 on a lever 61, causing the latter to rotate in the clockwise direction.
As shown in Fig. 7, this movement of the lever 61 in a horizontal plane serves to rotate a plate 62 about an axis 63 in a vertical plane. One end of the plate 62 is split to under a flange 57 of the rod 64
EMI3.1
Guide 66 and goes through the cover plate. Thus, when the platter 62 is rotated, the pad 65 contacts the underside of the record 52 and lifts it up, with the result that if the spindle 17 has been pushed down sufficiently, the platter 52 descends therefrom as the turntable 16 continues to rotate into a suitable container on the side of the gramophone.
The next step is to put a new platter on the turntable and to it
For this purpose it is necessary to turn the plate 8 through an angle and to lift the spindle 17 so that it almost touches the support 4. These two movements are brought about by further cams on the sleeve-M.
The second cam 67 on this sleeve. 54 rests on a roller 68 of a lever 69 rotatable at 70, while the other end of this lever 69 carries the pin 13. When this lever 69 is pivoted, the pin 1.3 engaging in the groove 11 of the disk 10 serves to pivot the plate 8 and thus to move the lowest plate 3 so that it can slide down from the support 4, as described above .
The third cam 71 of the sleeve 54 rests against a roller 72 which is arranged on a rotatable lever 7. 3 (FIG. 6) which has a projection 7! which is engaged with the end of a rotatable member 23. When the lever 72 is thus pivoted in a horizontal plane, the part 23 is pivoted in a vertical plane, so that the roller 22 presses the flange 21 and presses the spindle 17 downwards to allow the disc being played in the manner described above removed from the turntable.
The continued rotation of the cam 71, however, allows the parts to be returned to their initial position, so that the roller 22 is pushed upwards in the hollow spindle 15 under the influence of the spring 18 and the spindle 17 rises to its normal position and as a guide for the Plate 3 coming down from the support 4 is used.
When the plate has been placed on the turntable as described above, the continued rotation of the wheel 39, which swings the lever 41, brings this lever back to the position shown in FIG. On the way back, the edge of the plate 48 comes into contact with a pin 75 of the plate 50 and thus serves to bring the tone arm into the approximately correct position for the beginning of the game of a new plate. The plate 48 moves the tonearm inwards to a certain extent, depending on whether the plate has a larger or smaller diameter, u. zw. by the action of an eccentric plate 76 which is articulated to the spindle 9 by rods 77 and 78 and an angle lever 79.
When the last record has been played, the brake is applied automatically. For this purpose, the button 65 is used, which is suitable to act as a sensor to determine whether a plate is on the turntable or not. When the lever 61 is moved by the cam 53 to pivot the member 62 and thus raise the button 65, a pin 58 of the lever 61 slides on the surface of a rotatably mounted rod 59 until, when the button 65 in its highest position
EMI3.2
with the pin 58 and thus holds the button 65 in its raised position until it is pressed down by the dropping of a plate on the turntable.
When this happens, the link 62 pivots by 6.1 because the cam 53 has rotated so far during this time that the lever 61 looks back to its initial position.
EMI3.3
Lever 61 counterclockwise to move its pin and so brings it into contact with an upstanding post 88 of a lever 84 rotatable on the rotatable lever 30 at 85. This brings a second upstanding projection 86 of the lever 84 out of the cam groove 87 a Oscillating plate 88. The latter has a curved surface. 89, which is detected by a button 90 on one of the ends of a rocker 91, the other end of which carries a brake pad 92 which cooperates with the inside of the turntable.
If there is no disk on the turntable, button 65 is not pushed down. As a result, the lever 61 does not move the button 86 out of the path of the cam groove 87. When the lever 30 finally moves back into its initial position at the end of the rotation of the wheel 39, it is caused by the engagement of the button 86 in FIG
EMI3.4
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and the brake is applied under the influence of the spring 93. The button 86 is held by a light spring 94 in the cam groove 87 when it is not moved out of it by the lever 61 which, as explained above, can only be moved by the weight of a plate falling onto the turntable.
In Fig. 8, which shows another embodiment, the stepped support 4 is relatively short and the spindle 17 is relatively long. This spindle 17 is provided with a flange or button 9eS which receives the plate as soon as it is lowered from the stepped support 4 and which supports the plate as it is lowered onto the turntable by the spindle. A modified arrangement is also shown for holding the panels on the stepped support 4. As shown, a spiral spring 96 surrounds the support 4 and presses on a disk 97. This serves to keep the plates in a perpendicular position to the axis of the support 4.
A modified way of raising and lowering the spindle 17 is also shown. In this case, a rotatable lever 98 is caused by a cam to swing in a similar manner in a vertical plane as the rotatable member 62, this lever 98 having a long tongue 99 which engages the lower end of the spindle 17 so that the latter is inevitably pushed up and can fall under the influence of gravity.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Magazine gramophone, in which the plates are lined up on a support located above the center of the turntable and can be made to automatically slide one after the other from the support onto the turntable, characterized in that a spindle (17) is arranged which is perpendicular can move through the turntable (16) to such positions that it touches or approaches the lower end of the support (4) when a new panel is to be lowered and guides or carries the panel as it descends from the support but that when the playing of a plate is finished, a gap is left between the spindle and the support so that the plate can be removed sideways from the turntable.
