<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a dimming device for vehicle lamps, ordered from a cover that can be pushed over the lamp from the driver's seat.
Compared to known arrangements of this type, the invention is based on the fact that the sleeve arranged in the interior of the lamp housing consists of a short piece of glass which rests directly on the bulb of the lamp. and so is borne by this. The known devices, on the other hand, consist of a shell located at a distance from the surface of the bulb, which always fluctuates back and forth when the frame is shaken, resulting in a back and forth fluctuating light beam, which is extremely disruptive to oncoming pedestrians and vehicles. However, it has already been proposed to prevent this known sheath from swinging back and forth by arranging a special guide.
By arranging these guides, however, the dimming device is extremely complicated, while according to the invention no special guide for the sliding cover is necessary because the cover rests directly on the bulb of the lamp. The sheath consisting of the tube piece is attached at one end to the socket of the lamp and at the other end to several flexible rods distributed around the circumference of the lamp, which flexible rods press the tube piece against the lamp when they are longitudinally displaced. The advantage of this arrangement lies in the extremely simple design and in it. that they can easily be attached to already finished vehicle lamps.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention: Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a lamp housing with the dimming device and Fig. 3 and 3 are sections along lines 2 # 2 and 3-3 of Fig. 1,

Socket for the lamp D is attached, wherein a plug E can be connected to the Leittingssehnur F with the socket. A cylinder 1 is screwed to the center of the rear wall of the housing A by means of bolts 2 which pass through a flange 3 of the cylinder. A piston or ring 4 moves in this cylinder.
The ring opening is bridged by a web 5 to which a rod 6 is connected. which continues through a hose 7. One end of the hose 7 is fastened in a socket 8 of the cylinder, while the other end engages a sleeve 9 which penetrates the instrument panel. The rod 6 also goes through this sleeve 9 and carries a button 10 at its end.
With the ring 4 are several, for. B. four wires 11 connected. which extend through corresponding holes in the housing cl and through slots 12 in the mirror B.
As a result of the arrangement of these slots 12, the wires 11 are constantly pressed onto the lamp D. A short piece of hose 13 made of knitted fabric such as silk, canvas, cotton or the like is connected to these wires 11 in such a way that one end of the hose 13 is connected to the free ends of the wires, while the other end of the hose 13 is connected to it the socket C of the lamp is in connection.
If the wires 11 are now moved forward by moving the ring 4, as shown in FIG. 1, the hose piece 13 is thereby moved over the lamp

stretched out, as a result of which part of the lamp is covered in such a way that the light is not reflected in its entirety by the mirror B and accordingly there is no dazzling of oncoming drivers or pedestrians. However, if * the ring 4 is withdrawn. As indicated by dashed lines, this also pulls the wires 11 with the hose 13 behind the lamp D, so that the lamp is exposed. In order to ensure that when the wires 11 are moved, the front ends of the rods remain in engagement with the enlarged part of the lamp D, these ends are held together by a rubber ring 14.
