Geltung gebracht.
Fig. 10 ist die zugehörige Schaltung.

Brought to bear. FIGS. 5 and 6 are circuits in which the principle shown in FIG. 2 is illustrated in its application to a multi-stage thermionic tube amplifier, with unmatched (FIG. 5) and matched (FIG. 6) intermediate transformers being used. Fig. 7 shows a circuit element which illustrates a modification of the present invention as applied to a system of more than two circuits. FIG. 8 is a circuit diagram of a radio receiver with a multistage radio frequency amplifier, in which the principles shown in FIG. 7 are used in their application to an amplifier of the type shown in FIG.
Fig. 9 shows a plan view and elevation of a structural embodiment of the invention in its application for a radio receiving system. Fig. 10 is the associated circuit.
In FIGS. 1 to 7, A and B denote electrical circuits of any kind; z. B. tuned, not tuned or resonant circles, with the letters Cl, C2, C'and CIf are capacities, -which form the four branches of a bridge consisting of all capacities and which can be of any type, e.g. B. capacitors or natural inherent capacitance between circuit elements or between the electrodes of thermionic valves. If any of these
EMI2.1
The values of the capacitances are adjusted until no part of the voltage generated between the connection points of one circle comes into play between the connection points of the other circle. There must be no inductive or resistive coupling between the two circles if an exact balance is to be obtained. The quantitative condition for an exact balancing or for a neutralization of the capacitive coupling between the circuits A and B is:
EMI2.2
For the fundamental circle shown in FIG. 1, as well as for the circles shown in the other figures, it is assumed for the purposes of the description that these four fundamental capacitances are set in such a way that they satisfy the condition expressed by the above equation.
An inductive coupling or a resistive coupling can then be introduced between the circles if desired. The capacitive coupling, however, will remain neutralized as long as equation 1 is met.
Fig. 2 shows the principle of the invention in its application to a simple circuit with a thermionic valve. Here, as in Fig. 3, A and B can be used as input or input. Output circuit of the thermonic valve 1, which contains the anode P, the grid G and the thread F, are viewed. Since, according to general practice, the input circuit is always connected to the grid and the output circuit to the anode, the natural capacitance between grid and anode usually produces a capacitive coupling between the input and output circuit. This capacitive coupling is balanced and neutralized by the arrangement of the capacitance bridge shown.
Both in this circuit and in the circuits shown in the other figures, the capacitance C 'can be regarded as that which causes the undesired coupling which has to be neutralized. The large resistor or the grid conductor 2 connected between the grid and the thread circle is provided, as usual, for the purpose of maintaining a constant average grid potential with respect to the thread. Such resistance is a simple means of maintaining the required grid potential which can be either positive or negative with respect to the filament as necessary for the particular thermionic valve being used, and it can also be used in many other ways, e.g. By using an impedance or a special battery.
Maximum gain will be obtained when the highest possible input voltage is imposed on the grille of the thermionic valve and it is therefore preferable that the
EMI2.3
neutralizing bridge in relation to the grid and the anode is arranged upside down. In this figure, the input circuit connected to the grid G and the thread F of the thermionic valve 3 is designated by A. The capacitance 0 'represents the inherent capacitance C' present between the grid G and the anode P. In the output circuit B, there are capacitances C1, C2 and 0 ″, which are set in such a way that the equilibrium condition between the circuits A and B expressed by the equation (1) is achieved.
A choke coil 4 of high inductance and low electrostatic capacity is connected in the anode circuit between the anode P and the anode battery 12, whereby the anode direct current is not impeded, whereas the high-frequency currents which flow in the anode output circuit, due to the high impedance of the coil 4 from the battery 12 of circuit B are held.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The arrangement illustrated in FIG. 4 shows the system of FIG. 1 in its application to the input circuit of a thermionic valve. In this example it should be assumed that the circles A and B can be seen as sources of two separate voltages, which are brought to bear in series between two points connected by a capacitance: this capacitance is in this case the natural inherent capacitance C ' , which is shown as the capacitance which exists between the grid G and the filament F of the thermionic valve 5. When the two circles A and B are connected in series between the grid and the thread, they are through the
EMI3.1
G ci times the voltage across circle B.
The circuit in Fig. 5 illustrates two stages of a multi-stage amplifier in which the device shown in Fig. 2 is used to neutralize the capacitive coupling between two successive transformers, which is caused by the natural inherent capacitance C 'between the grid and anode P of the thermometric valve 8 consists. The two stages are identical, so only one of them can be considered here. Current fluctuations in the circle labeled "input", which can originate from the output of a preceding stage containing the primary winding of a transformer 10, induce fluctuations in the voltage across the grid thread circle of the thermionic valve 8 through the secondary winding of the transformer 10.
This circle is entirely identical to that illustrated in FIG. 2 and the capacitances C1 and C ″ and C2 act in the same way as the corresponding capacitances in the earlier figure.
The circuit according to FIG. 6 is essentially the same as that according to FIG. 5 with the difference that the periodic transformers 10 of FIG. 5 are replaced here by inductively coupled, tuned transformers with primary and secondary windings 13 and 14, respectively. The secondary winding 14 is tuned by the variable capacitor 15. In connection with FIGS. 5 and 6, it is important to note that the neutralization of the capacitive coupling is entirely independent of the degree of inductive coupling in the transformers indicated by 10 in FIG. 5 and 13-14 in FIG.
The basic features of the schematic circuit according to FIG. 7 are identical to the system according to FIG. 1, to which an associated four-branch capacitance bridge Ca, Cb, Ce, Cd is attached, which is coupled to a branch of the bridge in FIG is. In this way, this circuit results in an enlarged capacitance bridge, which neutralizes the capacitive coupling of the circuits A or B and D. The capacity C1 of Fig. 1 consists of a system of capacities, which can be represented as follows:

The capacitive coupling between the circuit D is established by the connected bridge, Ca, Cb, Ce, Cd

The circuit according to FIG. 7 can obviously be extended to any number of circuits by connecting subordinate bridges to any capacitance branch of the network, e.g. B. in branch C2 or in branch Ce.

Neutralization of the capacitive coupling is obtained here by using the fundamental circles illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 7. The combined bridge of FIG. 7 neutralizes both the capacitive coupling due to the inherent capacitance C ′ of the thermionic valve 16 and that which is brought about by the existing natural capacitance Ca. The simple bridge according to FIG. 1 is used to neutralize the coupling which is caused by the inherent capacitance C ′ in the thermal valve 17.
The existing natural capacitance Ca occurs between the conductive surfaces, which are connected to the grid of the thermionic valve 16, and the conductive surfaces

possible tension due to high frequency currents in the threads of the thermionic valves 16 and 17 prevented. At the same time, a deflection capacitor 24 is connected between the common anode battery 12 and the supply lines for the same purpose.
A deflection capacitor 26 is connected directly between the anode and the thread circle of the rectifier valve 18 in order to deflect all possible high-frequency currents which flow in the anode circuit of this thermionic valve and which could produce a voltage in the telephones 27. So that the rectification takes place in the most advantageous part of the grid potential-grid current characteristic of the thermionic valve 17, a grid conductor 25 can be connected between the grid circle of this valve and its thread circle, as illustrated.
9 and 10 show the instruments in the unfolded state or the circuitry of a radio receiving system for which the present invention is used with great success. This receiver contains two stages of tuned high frequency gain, a rectifier or detector and one stage of low frequency gain. The upper part of FIG. 9, which is a plan view, shows the proposed arrangement of the instruments used in this receiver, which are denoted by the same reference letters as their symbolic representations in the circuit of FIG. The lower part of Fig. 9 showing a front view shows the arrangement of the tuning regulators, thread regulators and two telephone jacks which will be described in detail later.
Attention should be paid to the position of the intermediate transformers 32, 33 and 34, the centers of which lie in the same straight line to which their axes are inclined at an angle of approximately 55 "in order to thereby eliminate the magnetic coupling between the coils a suitable magnetic shield can also be used.
The two stages of the high-frequency amplification are essentially similar to the two stages of the high-frequency amplification which was described with reference to FIG. 8 and this amplifier device consists of two thermonic valves 28 and 29 which are connected to the antenna one below the other and to the rectifier valve by the transformers 32 and 33 and 34 are coupled, which are tuned by capacitors 35 and 36 and 37, respectively. A telephone jack 48 can be branched off from the outlet of the detector valve, into which a telephone plug can be inserted, which is connected to the telephone.
In order to achieve strong signal reproduction, the telephone plug can be inserted into the jack 49 which is located in the output circuit of the low frequency amplifier 31 which is coupled to the output circuit of the rectifier 30 through the low frequency transformer 47.
The inductively coupled transformers 32,33 and 34 may contain a secondary or grid coil of 55 turns of insulated wire and a primary or antenna or anode coil of 20 turns of insulated wire extending from one end to the other in a cylindrical insulating form about 62 mm in diameter are wound. The variable capacitors 35, 36 and 37 suitable for tuning these coils can have a maximum capacitance of about 500 micromicrofarads to allow the receiver a frequency band of about 1.250. 000 to 550,000 periods.
The deflection capacitor 40, which has a capacitance of one microfarad, is connected between the filaments of the thermionic valves 28 and 29 in order to prevent high frequency currents from producing a tension across the filaments. As illustrated, a capacitor 41 of the same capacity can be switched on via the common anode battery in order to prevent high-frequency currents from generating a voltage via this battery. The heating current for the parallel-connected threads of the thermionic valves 28 and 29 is provided by the rheostat 4:? regulated and in the same way the current supplied to the threads of the thermionic valves 30 and 31 is regulated by the rheostat 43.
A successful method of balancing and neutralizing the capacitive coupling between grid anodes in the high frequency amplification valves 28 and 29, which for neutralization may be assumed to have a grid anode capacitance of approximately 10 micromicrofarads, is as follows: a strong alternating current which is within the frequency band for which of the amplifiers is intended to be changeable is fed into the input circuit at points 21 and 22 and the tuning regulator 35 is changed so that a maximum reproduction is produced in the telephones which can be switched on in the jacks 48 and 49.
The connection is then interrupted at a thread connection of the thermionic valve 28, whose capacitance C ′ between the grid and anode is now to be balanced and neutralized. Given the constants given, it is found that when C '= 10, Cl = 60 and C2 = 480 micromicrofarads and C ", which is preferably a small variable capacitor, is set to 80 micromicrofarads, minimal reproduction is obtained in the telephones, which indicates a complete balancing of the capacitance C '.

to neutralize.
After the capacitances between the grid and anodes of the thermionic valves 28 and 29 have been neutralized, the result is that the receiver can be tuned over the entire frequency band for which it is intended, without any undesirable interactions as a result of capacitive feedback from the anode to the Grids occur, which would be caused by the inherent, capacitive coupling between grid anodes in the thermionic valves.
In the case of complex capacitance bridges, the setting methods must be used to bring about a balance
EMI5.1
Thermionic valve amplifiers according to the invention, such as. B. Amplifiers which consist of one or more stages in the manner illustrated in FIGS. 5 or 6 are sometimes particularly valuable because of their property as unidirectional relays. Because of the effect of the thermionic valve as an amplifier, alternating currents are periodically amplified in the direction from the grid to the anode, but due to the properties of the capacitance bridge, alternating currents are not allowed through in the opposite direction under suitable conditions.
In receiving systems that work according to the regenerative, feedback, heterodyne or the so-called "beat" system, whereby alternating currents are generated locally in the receiver, an amplifier which has this rectification characteristic and which, according to the proposed method, amplifies and between the antenna and the oscillating thermionic valve is switched, not only the received signal, but also prevents the locally generated currents from being transmitted by the antenna and thereby interfering with other reception in the neighborhood.
It should be noted that in the FIGS. 2, 3, 5. 8 and 10 illustrated cases,

For example, in the system illustrated in Figures 9 and 10, this ratio is approximately 1/6, which in this case is completely satisfactory.
PATENT CLAIMS: l. Device for neutralizing capacitive couplings in an electrical system which contains Pine or several electron tubes, each electron tube containing an input circuit and output circuit which are undesirably coupled to one another by the capacitance between the grid and anode of this electron tube, characterized by a network which is essentially composed of 4 capacities exist which are wholly or partly naturally inherent capacities, in that one of the capacities forming the network has the inherent anode-grid capacitance of the electron tube and another of these capacities is another existing between the electrodes
inherent capacitance of the electron tube with or without the addition of the capacitance of a capacitor connected in parallel, the capacitances of the network being arranged in such a way that they form a balanced capacitance bridge, and the input and output circuits of the electron tube are conjugate branches of this bridge and thus the capacitive reactances of these 4 Capacities together are sufficient to neutralize the capacitive coupling.
