Verfahren zur Behandlung von Cellulosederivate enthaltender Essigsäure.
Wenn man verdünnte Essigsäure, die Cellulosederivate in Lösung enthält, wie sie im besonderen bei der Fabrikation von Acetylcellulose anfällt, konzentrieren will, so z. B. durch Ausziehen mittels eines Lösungsmittels, so fallen die darin gelösten Cellulosederivate aus, u. zw. um so stärker, je mehr Essigsäure aus der wässerigen Flüssigkeit ausgezogen ist. Diese Stoffe bleiben aufgeschlämmt in der Flüssigkeit, sie hindern das Abtrennen und machen schliesslich das ganze Extraktionsverfahren gewerblich unbrauchbar.
Es wurde mm gefunden, dass man diese Ausfällung verhindern kann, wenn man die von der Acetylcelluloseherstellung abfallende Essigsäure vorerst, vorzugsweise in der Wärme, mit sauer reagierenden Körpern, welche imstande sind, die in der Essigsäure enthaltenen wasserunlöslichen Celluloseverbindungen in wasserlösliche überzuführen, z. B. mit starken Säuren, behandelt. Die Dauer der Behandlung sowie die hiebei anzuwendenden Temperaturen sind sehr verschieden ; sie hängen von der Verdünnung der zu behandelnden Essigsäure, von ihrem Gehalt an Cellulosekörpern und von deren Natur ab. Im allgemeinen wird man mit 1% einer starken Säure in einigen Stunden in der Wärme den Zweck erreichen.
Die zugesetzte starke Säure macht die in Wasser unlöslichen Cellulosederivate wasserlöslich. indem sie deren Abbau befördert. Alle Säuren und sauren Salze, die die Cellulosederivate abzubauen imstande sind, können demnach zu dieser Behandlung benutzt werden.
Wenn die starke Säure der Weiterbehandlung (Extraktion) schädlich ist, kann sie nach der Löslich- machung neutralisiert werden.
Beispiel 1 : 27% ige Essigsäure, von der Acetylcelluloseherstellung herstammend, wird mit 1% Schwefelsäure (50 Be) versetzt und während sechs Stunden auf 650 erwärmt. Die so behandelte Säure ist, gegebenenfalls nach ihrer Neutralisierung mit Soda, zur Extraktion geeignet.
Beispiel 2 : Zu 25% iger Essigsäure, die von der Herstellung der Celluloseacetate herrührt, fügt man 1% ihres Gewichtes 33% ige Salzsäure und hält das Gemisch während zwei Stunden auf 90 .
Man erzielt die gleiche Wirkung mit 1% Phosphorsäure, indem man vier Stunden auf 1100 erhitzt.
Man kann auch mit 1% Arsensäure während acht Stunden auf 110 oder mit 1% Benzolqulfo- säure während sechs Stunden auf 1100 erhitzen.
Beispiel 3 : Zu 20% iger Essigsäure, von der Celluloseacetatfabrikation herstammend, wird Schwefelsäure von 50 Bé (30 em3 für jeden Liter 20% iger Essigsäure) gegeben ; man hält 24 Stunden lang auf 20 . Die so behandelte Säure ist, gegebenenfalls nach Abstumpfung der Schwefelsäure durch Soda, zum Ausziehen geeignet. Denselben Erfolg erzielt man mit 40 em3 33% iger Salzsäure per Liter Essigsäure (bei gleicher Temperatur und Zeitdauer).
Beispiel 4 : Zu 20% iger, von der Celluloseacetat-Herstellung stammender Essigsäure fügt man Natriumbisulfat im Verhältnis von 25 g NaHSO auf den Liter Essigsäure zu und hält das Gemisch sechs Stunden lang auf 80 . Die so behandelte Säure ist zur Extraktion geeignet.
Man erhält das gleiche Ergebnis, wenn man 50 g NaHSO auf den Liter Säure zusetzt und das Gemisch während dreieinhalb Stunden auf 900 erwärmt.
Die Einwirkungsdauer kann auf 2 Stunden abgekürzt werden, wenn man bei 900 arbeitet.

If you want to concentrate dilute acetic acid, which contains cellulose derivatives in solution, such as is obtained in particular in the manufacture of acetyl cellulose, B. by exhausting using a solvent, the dissolved cellulose derivatives fall out, u. the more acetic acid is extracted from the aqueous liquid, the stronger. These substances remain suspended in the liquid, they prevent separation and ultimately make the entire extraction process commercially unusable.
It has been found that this precipitation can be prevented if the acetic acid falling off from the acetylcellulose production is initially used, preferably in the heat, with acidic reacting bodies which are able to convert the water-insoluble cellulose compounds contained in the acetic acid into water-soluble ones, e.g. B. with strong acids treated. The duration of the treatment and the temperatures to be used are very different; they depend on the dilution of the acetic acid to be treated, on their cellulosic content and on their nature. In general, 1% of a strong acid will achieve the purpose in a few hours in the heat.
The added strong acid makes the water-insoluble cellulose derivatives water-soluble. by promoting their dismantling. All acids and acidic salts which are capable of degrading the cellulose derivatives can therefore be used for this treatment.
If the strong acid is harmful to further treatment (extraction), it can be neutralized after solubilization.
Example 1: 27% acetic acid, from the acetylcellulose production, is mixed with 1% sulfuric acid (50 Be) and heated to 650 for six hours. The acid treated in this way is suitable for extraction, if necessary after being neutralized with soda.
Example 2: To 25% acetic acid, which originates from the production of the cellulose acetates, 1% of its weight of 33% hydrochloric acid is added and the mixture is kept at 90 for two hours.
The same effect is obtained with 1% phosphoric acid by heating to 1100 for four hours.
It is also possible to heat to 110 with 1% arsenic acid for eight hours or to 1100 with 1% benzene sulfonic acid for six hours.
Example 3: Sulfuric acid of 50 Be (30 cubic meters for each liter of 20% acetic acid) is added to 20% acetic acid from cellulose acetate production; hold at 20 for 24 hours. The acid treated in this way is suitable for exhaustion, if necessary after the sulfuric acid has been blunted with soda. The same success is achieved with 40 em3 33% hydrochloric acid per liter of acetic acid (at the same temperature and time).
Example 4: Sodium bisulphate is added to 20% acetic acid from cellulose acetate production in a ratio of 25 g NaHSO per liter of acetic acid and the mixture is kept at 80 for six hours. The acid treated in this way is suitable for extraction.
The same result is obtained if 50 g of NaHSO are added per liter of acid and the mixture is heated to 900 for three and a half hours.
The exposure time can be shortened to 2 hours when working at 900.
