Stop valve for gases and liquids.
The invention relates to a further embodiment of the shut-off valve according to Patent No. 91364.
Patent No. 91364 has made known a shut-off valve for gas or liquids with a piston valve arranged in the valve housing with through openings and an attachment for pressing the lantern surrounding it down onto the elastic piston seal, in which valve the base ring of the stem stuffing box is designed as a sliding pressure piece for the lantern is.
The purpose of the construction is to relieve the elastic piston valve seal or the stuffing box packing, depending on the position of use of the valve.
This interaction fully corresponds to the normal practical requirements when the medium enters in the direction of the arrow, i.e. under the piston valve. If, on the other hand, the steam or the liquid enters from the other side of the housing B, i.e. through the lantern slots, the relief of the stuffing box occurring with valve stem can result in leakage of the valve spindle.
In order to avoid this, regardless of whether the higher pressure prevails to the right or left of the valve or whether the steam enters, the nut thread of the valve spindle is moved according to the invention into the movable pressure piece itself, so that by screwing the piston down onto the seat the stuffing box is also tightened tighter due to the counterpressure on the spindle nut, while the normal stuffing box pressure increases slightly when the piston lid is opened.
The drawing shows an embodiment of a smaller straight-way valve with a screw cap as a stuffing box housing. 1 is the plunger, 2 the lantern, 3 the piston cover, 4 the valve spindle, which has its thread in the pressure piece 9, 5,6, 7 are the stuffing box gland, screw cap and attachment for the upper stuffing box cover 8.
The pressure piece 9 is widened in the shape of a plate at the bottom in order to reach over the lantern and is prevented from rotating by guide lugs 10. The drawing shows the valve in the open state, whereby the steam can enter in the direction of arrow A or from the second side B. The two lids are in the same state of pressure. In order to close the valve, the piston is lowered until the annular extension 1a rests on the lantern extension 2a, which is designed as a valve seat. The pressure in the sealing liner 3 increases, but at the same time the pressure in the stuffing box increases due to the countermovement of the pressure piece 9.
In the case of large versions, the stuffing box attachment is connected to the valve body with flanges as in the case of loop valves. In order to relieve the piston, the piston valve can also be provided with a forward stroke cone for pressure compensation.
