Hydraulic drive device for the electrodes of electric melting furnaces.
Moving the electrodes of electric melting furnaces hydraulically has great advantages over other types of drive, because the electrode carrier can be connected directly to the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder without a transmission gear and the hydraulic valve for controlling the cylinder by hand or automatically depending on current, voltage or Power can be adjusted electrically according to the requirements of the operation. Since control valves for double-acting cylinders are very difficult to manufacture and practically cannot be kept in a safe operating condition, the single-acting cylinder without a stuffing box is preferred for the electrode drive.
By means of water pressure, the same lifts the electrodes, which are partially balanced by a counterweight, while the excess of the electrode weight over the counterweight is effective for lowering. Since the electrode length changes during operation due to consumption and replacement, the electrode weight also fluctuates. As a result, with automatic control, the lowering speed in particular becomes uneven, namely high with long electrodes and low with short electrodes.
This is not indifferent to the operation of the furnace, since too high a lowering speed can easily lead to overregulation, and too low a lowering speed can often cause the arc to break off. The precision of the regulation also changes, since it is not indifferent with which force the electrodes are adjusted.
According to the present invention, these disadvantages are prevented by a valve shown in Fig. 1 and labeled q in Fig. 2, which is built into the line of the pressure fluid between the control valve Tit and the working cylinder g and works so that it works when the hydraulic piston is lifted (solid arrows) opens fully under fluid pressure n, when the piston is relieved of pressure (dashed arrows) the return flow of the operating fluid o throttles. As a result, a certain back pressure is generated in the cylinder and the sinking of the electrodes k is slowed down the more the greater the effective, i.e. H. is the unbalanced electrode weight.
Such a valve can be called a one-way throttle valve; it is built in the manner of a check valve, which in one sense, like every check valve, opens fully, but in the other sense does not close completely, but leaves a throttle gap e open. The size of this throttle gap can, for. B. can be made adjustable from the outside by means of spindle z.
Another great advantage of this device is that the counterweight can be entirely or partially saved. This is because the lowering speed of the electrodes can usually be slowed down by the throttle valve alone to the extent that it corresponds to practical requirements. With the elimination or reduction of the counterweights, the furnace can be built much lighter and more economically and the regulation can be refined as a result of the elimination of considerable mass acceleration work, which increases the profitability of furnace operation.
