Medical device for introducing powder into cavities in the body.
The invention relates to a medical device for introducing powder into cavities in the body, e.g. B. in the throat. The device consists of a cylinder. and a piston which, in the vicinity of one end thereof, has an annular groove which forms a chamber for receiving a powder. At one end of the cylinder a removable funnel is attached, which serves to receive powder, which is pushed into said chamber when the piston is pulled backwards. After removal of the funnel, the device is introduced into the cavity to be treated and the powder is expelled against the walls of the cavity.
According to the invention, an annular groove is also arranged at the other end of the piston.
This groove is smaller than the first mentioned and, when the piston is reversed, forms a chamber which can hold a smaller amount of powder.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention: FIG. 1 is a side view of the device with the funnel in the working position, FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section through the assembly according to FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a side view partially in section, with the funnel removed and the chamber filled with powder, and FIG. 4 is a top view of FIG. 1.
The cylinder 1, which preferably consists of a tube made of hard rubber, is somewhat conical and threaded at one end and divided into a number of tongues 2 by slots 3.
A nut 4 is threadedly engaged with the threads of the sleeve of the cylinder and serves to clamp the tongues together when the nut 4 is screwed onto the cylinder. Inside the cylinder 1 there is slidably disposed a piston 5 which protrudes from the cylinder at both ends and is provided with turned parts 6 and 6a in the vicinity of its ends. The one outermost end 7 is preferably reinforced and has an oval shape and adjoins the turned part 6 directly. A similar reinforcement 7a is detachably connected to the turned part 6a, so that the piston can be inserted into the cylinder. The part 7a serves as a handle to move the piston back and forth in the cylinder.
The upper end of the cylinder is beveled inwards in order to form a seat for the part 7 when the same closes the cylinder when the piston is pulled backwards (FIG. 3). By arranging the nut 4 and the threaded tongues 2, the lower end of the cylinder can be adjusted so that it tightly surrounds the piston.
To fix the piston in the cylinder, you only need to adjust the nut 4. A removable funnel 9 fits snugly onto the top of the cylinder or tube.
In order to fill the device with powder, the funnel 9 is put on and the piston pushed forward so that it assumes the position according to FIG. 2, then the powder is filled into the funnel
EMI1.1
Powder along with the air is sucked into the annular chamber formed by the turned part 6 and the cylinder, then the nut 4 is tightened to prevent accidental displacement of the piston and the funnel is removed from the cylinder. The device is now inserted into the mouth or another hollow space of the body, which is to be provided with the powder, and after the nut 4 is loosened, the piston 5 can be pushed forward by means of the handle 7a, so that the powder against the walls of the hollow space is ejected.
This expulsion of the powder is facilitated by the air in the chamber. If desired, the part 7 can be used to apply or distribute some of the expelled powder on certain parts of the wall of the hollow space.
