Description

Quecksilberdampf- Bogenlampe.

Mercury arc lamp.

operates without gas filling. If the gas pressure is increased above 200 mm, the output decreases so much as a result of the excessive increase in the voltage drop across the lamp that the light emission decreases again. These processes can be easily followed with the help of a photocell. The absolute values of the pressure limits mentioned shift when other lamp shapes and lamp lengths are used and naturally suffer a complete change when switching to other gases or gas mixtures.
It has proven to be expedient to dimension the series resistance, which can be selected to be relatively high in lamps according to the invention as mentioned, with regard to lamp length and gas pressure, so large that it absorbs at least half of the available voltage, so that only half the voltage is applied to the lamp. Since in this way a not inconsiderable amount of energy is available in the provision resistor, according to the invention it is preferably used at the same time for heat-emitting irradiation of the patient and, for this purpose, is wound and arranged in the manner of known heat radiators.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Mercury vapor arc lamp, characterized by a gas filling of such a density that, compared to vacuum operation under otherwise identical conditions, an increase in the operating voltage occurs without a visible change in color of the emitted light.
