Kneading and mixing machine for plastic masses.
Kneading and mixing machines with mixing blades on a horizontal axis allow the production of any plastic and viscoplastic masses in a known manner. Subsequently, they also allow the dissolution or dilution of such masses, but only to a very limited extent. The mixing and kneading blades with a horizontal axis act only as long as they are only moderately covered by the kneading or mixed material. In addition, if resolution or When the dilution liquid is added, the greater the height of the trough, the greater the trough height, it withdraws from the effect of the mixing blades.
So far, in order to achieve strong dilutions, the undiluted or only slightly diluted masses obtained in the kneading machine have been poured into a second agitator set up only for dilution, which entailed work and all sorts of inconveniences, especially when it came to dilutions to be made with volatile solvents .
One could now think of installing one or more such mixing paddles in the trough above the lying mixing paddles, which would be correspondingly increased upwards in order to bring about sufficient mass movement in the upper part of the trough. Then, however, these additional mixing blades would be an obstacle to the loading of the machine and would in turn be covered and glued under certain circumstances with unprocessed or only partially processed mix, so that this mix would be withdrawn from the kneading and mixing effect by the lower wings.
The invention remedies all of these deficiencies in that the horizontally arranged lower mixer blades are connected to an agitator with a vertical axis, which is guided through the cover of the correspondingly raised trough and conveniently stored in this cover and serves only for dilution Mixing blades not sufficiently influenced parts of the trough content, but even in its lowest position does not protrude below the apex of the path of those mixing blades.
The agitator can now be easily removed by lifting or opening the cover; the agitator shaft can also be arranged so that it can be raised and lowered in a manner known per se.
In both cases, the agitator does not in any way prevent the first mixing. In the case of volatile solvents or diluents, the last-mentioned arrangement also permits the transition from kneading and mixing to thinning without lifting the lid.
One has already provided both a horizontal and a vertical agitator with other types of equipment, namely with mash tuns for the brewery. However, these two agitators there have the same task and the same effect and virtually interlock with one another, in that the finished agitator reaches down to below the apex of the path of the horizontal agitator. Their drives on both sides are also inevitably connected to one another.
In this case, however, there is no possibility of tough ones lying in the lower part of the container. plastic masses with considerable effort and to work through and at the same time to stir the above diluting liquid in such a way that the dissolved or diluted spreads slightly evenly in the whole diluting liquid. For this purpose, it is rather necessary, according to the invention, that the upper agitator does not reach down into the area of action of the horizontally lying mixing blades.

An embodiment of a machine which is particularly suitable for dissolving xanthate in the case of viscose oil or for diluting rubber solution is shown in the drawing in a schematic manner. zw. The drawing shows a vertical center section through the machine.
In the trough ss, which can be provided with a cooling jacket or the like. B, mixing and kneading blades are arranged on the horizontally lying axes c and d, which rotate in corresponding trough-like spaces of the trough bottom and work together in a known manner.
A vertical shaft e with a stirring blade f protrudes into the trough a from above. The shaft is advantageously mounted directly in the cover 9 and the bearing point is optionally sealed by a stuffing box. A belt pulley & attached to it can serve to drive the shaft e. However, any other drive means, e.g. B. be provided by means of bevel gears. The drive can also be set up in such a way that it takes place over the joint axis i, so that the drive device is not disturbed when the cover is opened. For the same purpose, the shaft e could also be displaceable in the belt pulley or the bevel gear taking its place, while the latter itself would remain in its place.
For the time of loading the machine with kneading material and for the time of mixing or kneading, the agitator blade system f can be pulled in all the way up, as indicated in the drawing with dot-dash lines, so that it is removed from the material thrown through the loading openings h cannot be taken. For the same purpose, deflecting walls 1n can be provided on the cover 9, either formed by a circumferential ring wall, according to the illustrated embodiment, or individually, surrounding the inner edge of the insertion openings. Instead of or in addition to the insertion openings h, one or more insertion openings n can also be provided in the trough wall. All these openings can be closed by suitable covers.
