Um bei der Abnahme des Heizstroms nicht an bestimmte Ladestellen gebunden zu sein, ist es zweckmässig, besonders bei Bahnhofsanlagen, mittels eines Stromabnehmers an jeder beliebigen Stelle der vorhandenen Fahrleitung, auch während der Fahrt Heizstrom entnehmen zu können. Eine Ausführungsform der selbsttätigen Abschaltung für diese Anordnung ist in Fig. 2 dargestellt. Es bedeutet dort 1 den Behälter, 3 den durch die Stopfbüchse 4 abgedichteten Kolben, der durch den Dampfdruck auf den Hebel 5 mit aufgebrachtem Gegengewicht 6 wirkt. Der Stromabnehmer 7 wird von dem Pressluftkolben 9, der im Zylinder 10 läuft, gegen die Leitungsschiene 8 gedrückt. Zur Erzeugung der Pressluft dient beispielsweise eine Luftpumpe 11, die unter Zwischenschaltung eines Behälters 12 auf den Kolben wirken kann.
In der Leitung befindet sich ein Ventil 13, durch das der Pressluftzylinder 10 mit der Aussenluft verbunden werden kann, unter Abschaltung des Behälters 12. Die Betätigung des Ventiles erfolgt selbsttätig bei Erreichen des gewünschten Dampfdruckes durch Kupplung des Hebels 5 mit dem Gestänge des Ventils 13. Das Ventil kann auch von Hand aus mittelt eines Gestänges 14 betätigt werden.
An Stelle von Druckluft kann auch der Betriebsdampf zur Betätigung des Stromabnehmers 7 herangezogen werden.

Instead of compressed air, the operating steam can also be used to actuate the current collector 7.
