Verfahren zur Herstellung von Alkalihydrosutlflten.
Die Reduktion von Bisulfiten durch Alkaliamalgam führt nicht ausschliesslich zu Hydrosulfit, sondern diese Reduktion geht teilweise weiter, indem gebildetes Hydrosulfit durch Amalgam zu Thiosulfat, und das Thiosulfat durch Amalgam zu Polythionaten reduziert wird. Dadurch geht ein Teil des Alkalimetalls und ein Teil der schwefligen Säure für die Hydrosulfitbildung verloren. Wegen der grossen Wasserlöslichkeit der Thiosulfate und Polythionate reichern diese sich ständig an und übernehmen entsprechend ihrer Anreicherung einen grösseren Teil der Reduktionswirkung des Alkalimetalls.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass man wesentlich grössere Ausbeuten an Hydrosulfit aus dem Alkali- metall und dem Bisulfit erhält, wenn man einen Teil der Mutterlaugen aus dem Prozess periodisch oder kontinuierlich entfernt und durch Wasser oder eine Salzlösung, z. B. Kochsalzlösung, ersetzt. Dadurch wird der Gehalt der Lauge an Thiosulfaten und Polythionaten auf eine geringere Höhe herabgeditickt, während man gleichzeitig dadurch mit oder ohne gleichzeitig geringes Nachsetzen von Bisulfit den Sulfit- 'und Bisulfitgehalt der Lauge auf gewünschter konstanter Höhe erhalten kann.
Auf diese Weise findet das Alkalimetall des Amalgams mehr Bisulfit und weniger Thiosulfate und Polythionate zur Reduktion vor.

The reduction of bisulfites by alkali amalgam does not lead exclusively to hydrosulfite, but this reduction continues in part, in that the hydrosulfite formed is reduced by amalgam to thiosulfate and the thiosulfate is reduced by amalgam to polythionates. As a result, part of the alkali metal and part of the sulphurous acid are lost for hydrosulphite formation. Because of the high solubility of thiosulfates and polythionates in water, these are constantly accumulating and, depending on their accumulation, take over a larger part of the reducing effect of the alkali metal.
It has now been found that much greater yields of hydrosulfite are obtained from the alkali metal and the bisulfite if part of the mother liquors is removed from the process periodically or continuously and replaced with water or a salt solution, e.g. B. Saline, replaced. As a result, the thiosulphate and polythionate content of the liquor is reduced to a lower level, while at the same time the sulphite and bisulphite content of the liquor can be maintained at the desired constant level with or without a simultaneous small replenishment of bisulfite.
In this way, the alkali metal of the amalgam has more bisulfite and fewer thiosulfates and polythionates for reduction.
