Device for automatically breaking the circuit when an electric iron overheats.
The invention relates to a device for automatically interrupting the heating current of electric irons by means of bodies which expand when heated. The subject of the invention differs from known devices of this type by the arrangement of two expansion bodies, which are clamped on one side in such a way that the free ends move in opposite directions during expansion and each of these ends independently of the other on a switching lever acts in such a way that the rotation imparted to the shift lever is composed of two individual rotations and is thereby given a considerable size.
This is achieved in that the switching lever is rotatably mounted on the free end of one expansion body and the free end of the other
The expansion body on the shift lever engages rotating near its pivot point, so that during this one action at the same time the pivot point is shifted in the opposite direction and thus the shift lever is additionally rotated about the point of application mentioned. The rotation of the switch lever that occurs when the heat rises above a certain limit is used to operate a heating current contact.
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown schematically and FIG. 1 shows a
Rear view of the iron, FIG. 2 shows a detail of the shift lever and FIG. 3 shows a simplified embodiment of the subject matter of the invention.
Above the iron a containing the heating resistor is a plate b as a support for the individual
Parts of the switching device and the handle c of the iron are provided. The outer ends of the expansion bodies d and e are fixedly attached to the plate b by screws i or the like; the free ends facing each other protrude from each other by a certain amount. The free end of one body d has a slot g which receives the lower part of the shift lever i, which is rotatably mounted in this expansion body about a bolt. The end of the gearshift lever has a nose j projecting towards the body e and is also cut out corresponding to the end of the body e.
The upper end of the shift lever is guided through a guide 7c in its plane of rotation. A sleeve 1 is slidable on the shift lever, which by means of a nose; n cooperates with a stop of the plate b. The contacts 0, 0 ′ are also arranged on the plate b, for the connection of which a contact spring p equipped with a contact piece q is provided at the free end. The contact spring, which acts to keep the heating circuit open, is supported against a pin r of the sleeve l, which is also provided with a handle s.
The subject matter of the invention according to this embodiment works as follows: As long as the temperature is below the certain limit, the shift lever i and sleeve 1 are in the position illustrated in FIG. 1 with full lines, in which the sleeve 1 faces the Stop n supports. As the temperature rises, the pivot pin h moves to the left and causes the switch lever to rotate counterclockwise, which is increased by the fact that the end of the body e, which is simultaneously shifting to the right, acts on the nose j.
The resulting inclined position of the switching lever causes the nose m to slide off the stop n and, as a result, the heating current at the contact 0 'is interrupted. After cooling has occurred, the sleeve 1 can be raised again by means of the handle s to its original position, which closes the heating current.
