Abstract
La invención se refiere a la producción electroquímica de hidrógeno e hidróxido de litio a partir de agua que contiene Li⁺ con la ayuda de una membrana LiSICon. Aborda el problema de especificar un proceso que también pueda operarse económicamente a escala industrial. En particular, el proceso debe tener una buena eficiencia energética y lograr una vida útil prolongada de la membrana incluso cuando la alimentación empleada contiene impurezas que son dañinas para los materiales LiSICon. Un aspecto particular del proceso es que la separación selectiva del litio por la membrana y la electrólisis del agua tienen lugar simultáneamente en la celda. Un aspecto clave del proceso es que el proceso electroquímico se lleva a cabo en medios básicos, más precisamente a un pH de 9 a 13. El pH se ajusta agregando un compuesto básico a la alimentación.
