Abstract
Se describen composiciones y métodos referentes a células de levadura modificadas que sobreexpresan a-cetoglutarato deshidrogenasa (KGD2). Las células de levadura modificadas producen cantidades aumentadas de etanol en comparación con células de levadura parentales por lo demás idénticas. Tales células de levadura son particularmente útiles para la producción de etanol a gran escala a partir de sustratos de almidón. Reivindicación 1: Células de levadura modificadas derivadas de células de levadura parentales, comprendiendo las células modificadas una alteración genética que hace que las células modificadas produzcan una cantidad aumentada de polipéptidos de a-cetoglutarato deshidrogenasa (KGD2) en comparación con las células parentales, en las que las células modificadas producen durante la fermentación una cantidad aumentada de etanol en comparación con la cantidad de etanol producida por células de levadura parentales por lo demás idénticas.
