Abstract

La presente proporciona un método para reducir carbohidratos solubles en agua (WSC) en células y plantas fotosintéticas, en donde el método comprende el paso de modificar genéticamente las células y plantas fotosintéticas para expresar una oleosina modificada que incluye al menos una cisteína introducida artificialmente para reducir WSC. Los solicitantes han demostrado que, en tales células y plantas, existe una fuerte correlación entre WSC reducida y fotosíntesis elevada y baja. Además, WSC es significativamente más simple de medir que las otras características típicamente medidas al seleccionar células o plantas con las características más favorables.
