Un proceso para la hidrogenolisis de un material de carga de azucar en presencia de un catalizador que comprende:(a) rutenio u osmio; y (b) una fosfina orgánica; y donde la hidrogenolisis se lleva a cabo en presencia de agua y a una temperatura mayor de 150°C.
