Abstract

La presente se refiere a un material adsorbente para la retencion de arsénico y otros elementos toxicos del agua contaminada, como ser el vanadio, que consiste en una mezcla de sustratos que esta conformada por caolinita, oxidos de hierro y sílice. La composicion del material adsorbente es caolinita Al4[(OH)8Si4O10] entre 50 y 80% (en peso), sílice entre 4 y 30% (en peso) y oxidos de hierro (hematita, magnetita, maguemita, wustita, akaganeita, geotita, feroxhita, ferrihidrita, lepidocrosita, oxidos de hierro hidratados), entre 10 y 30% (en peso). La retencion de arsénico y otros elementos toxicos, se realiza por procedimientos que utilizan dicha mezcla de sustratos, entre ellos: 1) Procedimientos en lotes o batch: se realiza por una Etapa a) mezcla del material adsorbente de la presente con un material desaglomerante inerte; Etapa b) mezcla con agua contaminada; Etapa c) agitacion; y Etapa d) filtrado. En el filtrado queda retenido el arsénico y otros elementos, como el vanadio. 2) Procedimiento en columna: consiste en Etapa a) mezcla del material adsorbente con un material desaglomerante inerte; Etapa b) rellenar una columna con el material obtenido, fijándolo para que no escurra; y Etapa c) interaccion con el agua contaminada a tratar, haciendo pasar el agua a través de la columna. Eventualmente se puede agregar una etapa de retencion de solidos con un filtro conteniendo hidroxiapatita granulada Ca10(OH)2(PO4)6.
