Abstract

The process comprises removing impurities from a suspension of crude carboxylic acid in a solid-liquid displacement zone to form a suspension-shaped product. The suspension product is further treated in a zone of oxidation in stages and in a zone of crystallization, to form a crystallized product. The crystallized product is further cooled in a cooling zone and is subsequently filtered and dried in a filtration and drying zone. The process produces a purified carboxylic acid product that has good color and low levels of impurities without using purification steps such as hydrogenation.
